I go colonizer (Evacuator) first most of the time. It is quite tough, has excellent level 6 skill i really want to have for future offensives against AI (and the first ship you build is first to get to level 6 90% of time). Sikantra is awesome early on to lead a huge fleet of tiny frigates and getting them out of even very tough situations. Most of the time my second ship. Kortul is quite tough, has an excellent ability (the cooldown one) and can take a lot of beating too. Sadl

Go big is the easiest with TEC. You have more cash as TEC and thus can afford more capital ships quicker. You need to finish this game quickly, and you probably want to use a small map. There's 6 research achievements so combining at least one with Go big is a good idea indeed. Easiest with TEC civilian research probably.
I like to use both long range frigates and heavy cruisers. Heavies come close quickly and get all the beating while LRMs shoot from far away without getting touched. I even sometimes jump my heavies first to make them get all the attention. And only after they are shot at, jump in with my frigates. This way they remain extra safe.
Defensive is easy and boring to play against. My fav is agressive. It keeps bugging me instead of letting me just grow. Is fun. :-) I go for random anyway for most of the time. I like the surprise.
Thanks for your input. I was undecided about this first colonizing cap ship thing for quite a long time. Finally I decided to go for this strategy I wrote because: - you have to babysit your colony ship because when they see it, they head straight for it - it takes a few points of your precious at the beginning fleet limit, can have an LRM instead of it - there aren't always neutral asteroids for the taking - when you conquer AI, you usually bomb his planets with capital shi
Take a Sova Carrier as your first cap and embargo them.
Invent trade, culture, ice and volcanic colonization and forget about civilian tree for a longer while.
Thank you guys. I really appreciate your positive replies. What I don't appreciate is clan guys spamming this thread with information that I don't care about. I won't become a member of your clan just to read a guide you promise. It's lame if you think I will. Please go away. :-)
Try reading my guide on AI. Maybe it will help you take off in this game. [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=404&aid=301605"]https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=404&aid=301605[/link]
What exactly do you need? Fleet composition (aka LRM or Kodiak)? Colonization tips (aka Ice or Volcanic)? Fighting tips (aka target carriers or ships that fix others first)? :-)
I updated it to tell you a thing or two about defenses. Thanks for your positive replies. CalibanXXX: When it gets crowdy in later stages of the game, the truth is, you need every cheap trick you can figure out to get a win there. If not, you're just outnumbered and beaten badly. My advices are to tell people how to behave to get advantage over many hard random personality AI players.
I've spent quite a while doing achievements and it was usually all against many hard AI players. I saw no quality guide on AI yet, so I thought some people could use one. It's for medium and big maps where you have time for at least 6 planets before you have to fight a war. Smaller ones are boring and i don't play them. Find a different guide telling you how to spam LRMs on those and you're all set. Anyway, here it goes: 1. Knowing your enemy. Try to remember against who
I wish they allowed colonization of gas giants, nebulas and stuff. It could be done through a space station building... Like it was in Freelancer. There wasn't a planet everywhere but were stations in many places. You fly your akkan into it, you press colonize and it starts building a station. Can be costy and with little slots. I don't mind that. I just would like to have some control over this area. On some maps it's sometimes really huge and maintaining control over it is a
Don't forget Akkan's wing of either fighters of bombers. I think it makes up a lot early for its lack of direct firepower. Especially that you're fighting rebels for the first half an hour anyway and their siege frigates holding you from colonizing are torn into pieces by fighters. Akkan is the best first choice for TEC except for very small maps where a quick confrontation is imminent. On very small, I'd go for Sova anyway. Embargo and enemies are pretty much screwed
Oh dear. Okay, on my way. Thanks...
What's going on with those? I research everything, i win the game. I still don't get the achievement. I get all other achievements added from that game (like all artifacts (this one was tough) but not the ones regarding having the whole tree researched. And i'm 100% positive I researched everything. The research icon went dark after i did that. So, have you managed to get those achievements and how?
Well. If your whole empire just fell down like a house of cards and all you have left from your fleet were single ships with insane from fear crews... you would be at least worried, wouldn't you? That's why i'm so interested in this race. They must be really cool if they managed to scare the crap out of Vasari who aren't that nice themselves...
On wiki I read: "In recent times the Vasari entered the scene as they fled from their Xeno enemy." So, who are those Xeno guys? Do we know something about them? And how do wiki guys know more? Where did they take it from?
Despite great economy of TEC and great strikecraft of Advent, Vasari still remain my favourite race in this wonderful game. They just have this unique elite feel and phase stabilizers making the game so much more comfortable to play... Anyway, there's one thing that bugs me about them. I enjoyed their story a lot (after I actually read the manual after all those days of playing...) but there's one thing i'm failing to understand. The guys who destroyed Vasari empire and are still c
I want to create a map for 10 players. 5 stars, 20 planets each, 2 players. I'd like to keep planets packed together quite close so i choose smallest possible map and small orbit. Planets are all packed together close to the star, so is the pirate base. The problem is that my starting position is awfully far from that place. By starting position I mean my home planet, an asteroid and another random planet. Those three are far away from the star and other planets packed
