Hi all, I have just been looking at some of the mods in the works for SoaSE and they are simply amazing. Kudos to all the modders for their sterling work and devotion to their creations. Looking further afield it seems to me that there is a trend starting where software houses are releasing basic games with mod tools and I am beginning to wonder if we are seeing the start of new era of gaming, one that's not necessarily good for gamers. At the moment I play Uzii Sin Pl

I like it, I like it a lot. My only concern is that it may pander to the mouse jockeys, especially in massive fleets where those who can select and position their ships the quickest, win, leaving no time to sit and enjoy the battle scenes. Just my opinion you understand. However, you have just touched upon the one thing I HATE about our current games and that's the fact that we are STILL mired in the board game roots of hit points, modifiers, dice rolls etc. Just look at all the RTS ga
"IF you want an example of poor devmanship go look at 3000ad.com forums." lol, yes a source of neverending entertainment. But hey, I don't mean to abuse anyone or anything, just airing a couple of questions that sprung to mind as I read through this thread. Cheers,
"Conversely, the game is installing upon thousands and thousands of PCs without a hitch, yet yours seems to have an issue." I don't have an issue now, it's fixed and running, just wouldn't install from SDC. The point I was trying to make is how come hundreds, you should see me games cupboard, of games titles install perfectly on my PC yet along comes one, SoaSE, and suddenly it's my computer, Windows or video card that's at fault. Don't you think that's even the slighty bit odd
"EDIT: and about MSXML. This is microsoft software and when it fail to work then its microsofts fault. I mean you can be sure that the devolpers write a installer and then run it against different system configuration to see if it works well. Its NOT like they code something and then say "WTF lets just ship it cause testing sucks....". Surely NOT. " Well that sounds right, but how many games have you installed? I have bene gaming since the days of the Commodore Vic20 (yes that
"I'm interested as to how problems with NVidia's drivers are supposed to be fixed by Ironclad." mmm.... that's the wrong question. Since the drivers were around BEFORE the game I have to question if Ironclad came up against this problem and, if so, why Stardock have KNOWINGLY release a buggy game that affects so many people? Cheers,
Hi there, While waiting for the new driver to appear you could try setting your effects to High rather than Highest. I had the same issue as you, about 60 minutes in and the game would crash. Setting them to High fixed it for me. HTH
Hi folks, Just a thought here but how about a Phase Inhibitor orbital defense cannon that would destroy the jump drive of the vessels thus allowing other defenses to mop up. The warhead would maybe have an small area effect taking our multiple ships in close proximity to each other but it'd have limited range. What I can see from this is that you could not just send your fleet to a specific planet and busy yourself with other things until that fleet arrives at the tar
Hi all, After playing for a while my game would crash so hard that the computer rebooted. It'd also crash and reboot when I exited the game. After reading through some similar posts here I set all my Effects to High, NOT Highest and hey presto no more crashes either in game or when exiting. Just thought I'd share and reiterate this in case anyone has similar issues. Cheers,
Thanks Barleyman, Funny you should say that about BINK. I have SOTS as well and the intros stutter all over the place. However, I downloaded the Bink tools a while back and running the intros with the player, outside SOTS, they play just fine. Weird huh? Must try this with the SOASE intros. Cheers, Edit : Success! I set ShowIntroMovies and ShowOpeningCinematic both to FALSE and the game starts perfectly in Full Scree
Hi all, Another strange thing, stange since no-one can offer an explanation, is that I can switch to Full Screen within the game and it runs fine. Have to edit the settings file to set the TRUE flag again or remember to switch it back to windowed within the game before exiting though. Say, is there a way to bypass the intros? A command line switch perhaps? Cheers,
Hi all, Can anyone shed any light on why Sins crashes in Full Screen mode but is absolutely fine in full screen windowed mode? Everytime I try to run the game in Full Screen I can't get passed the Ironclad intro, except once when it played the Sins intro. Sometimes the Stardock intro will play then loop and crash most times it crashes on the Ironclad intro and the one time it did play the Sins intro it looped and crashed. Only way to fix was to power the computer off and on.<br
Hi, I managed to get this fixed by archiving the game and then restoring. What to do is in SDC right click on the game and select Archive. When it's done archiving right click again and Restore the archive. I now have the game installed but it won't start. Uninstalled SDC and downloaded everything again twice now and it just won;t start. What happens when I launch the game it plays the Stardock intro and then crashes at the Ironclad intro. Once it went through as far a
Thanks folks, Excuse my ignorance but how do you do a safe mode install? Do you mean Windows Safe Mode? I am using XP Pro SP2. Thanks,
Hi all, I have just bought and downloaded Sins via SDC but the installer is stuck on 8% Extracting: RESEARCHSUBJET_ALLEGIANECAP_INCREASE... and has been stuck for a good 30 minutes or so. What has happened, what can I do about it? Thanks,
