There are reasonable arguments for DRM. What I truly hate Steam for its patching. Its patching when I don't want it patched since I'm playing a game that plays out over, gasps, days or weeks or months. It's settings reverting to auto-patch on the slightest glitch, ruining a game. And of course the difficulty in getting patches when you want them, particularly beta patches. Yes, there is offline mode - not reliable. Yes, I can set the

Thanks! I suppose it must take some work to extract the data from the game. With a "final" version I suppose it's more likely to see an update.
There are some excellent but tables providing ship/fighter/bomber data and the very important armor/damage type information in the stickies, but I think woefully obsolete. The explanations of cryptic ship abilities are also useful, and more recent. Are there any new ship/combat data resources of this kind updated to the Diplomacy/Trinity era? On this site or elsewhere? I've been playing for 2 years but this game is so deep I'm still a newb. (There sh
I like the pirates and I like the IDEA of missions (and the first times they swooped down to savage the foe). Ideawise, besides representing real pirates, it is a rough substitute for minor powers that could be subsidized in proxy wars against other players. The actual execution is a bit heavy handed - the reason is probably that the playtesters are supercompetent compared with those of us who play this recreationally. Wny do pirates destroy planets completely?
I love Sins and recommend it to others. Impulse is OK (so far I only use it for downloads when I wish). I hate Steam. I really do. Steam is intrusive, dishonest and destructive - specifically, they claim turning off updates for a game will prevent it being updated, but if the game crashes Steam reverts to the auto-download setting, thereby wasting an enormous amount of time invested in games by making saves invalid. They said it doesn't happen, that it's just user
Bid timer unknown? In a normal auction it makes no sense for the pirates to have an unknown cut-off. I haven't gotten to the point of ridiculous pirates, but super frigates certainly does not seem the way to go.
Are more updated stats available somewhere? Thanks
Thanks for the response. Regular Looter Frigates don't stack - do Defender's stack or just 1 per empty planet?

How better to destroy your enemy than to trick him into being your friend?
I like that concept best - a Jack Sparrow of the spaceways - although there is also something to be said for being a pillaging alien space horde once in a while. The how-to-loot question is what do I need where to best loot ships/structures/planets. My guess is
Thank. I had 1.041 and it seems to work fine. I can go online and get 1.05 if that's better. I played some and might be getting the hang of it. Once I got the Abomination with droppable repair stations and defenders it was easier, but I made the mistake or enabling auto deployment and not paying attention - oh well, so long as they don't eat up supply they can't hurt, so am building a starbase (shipyard) nearby. Not having documentation makes it more of
Eviltesta, If I have the Diplomacy beta, but Entrenchment is an alternative to Diplomacy in the menus, will installing the mod work if I play the Entrenchment option without disrupting Diplomacy when I use that? Thanks
. The AI in the games present state don't really give a crap about super weapons. They don't build them, and they don't specifically target them.
I actually like that setting for the kind of No Nukes single player space battles I prefer.
Hiring pirates for a proxy war is great and adds realism and fun to the game. I paid about 30,000 credits and it did look pretty crowded. I wondered if I was nearing a cap and I guess not - I rather like the idea of capping the number of small ships at some level then adding costly caps from the buying race when it goes up more - they just dropped off the space truck, see. I was wondering what they would do if they wiped out the grav well but haven't seen it yet - wiped out the
Generally I prefer turn-based 4x game, or combinations such as Total War. It's very hard to get real-time games at the strategic level right, with the right pacing, smooth but deep (not overcomplicated) tech trees and decisionmaking, and moderately intelligent unit AI meaning the focus can be on strategy. It's also hard to avoid getting bogged down. I thought SOASE hit the mark fairly closely when it came out and has been improving since. I only wish I had more time to pla
My main question is how to prioritize diplomatic efforts in the early game, such as diplomatic research, bulding envoys, and doing missions in this expansion. The game seems harder than before. How to use the ability to offer missions to other players is not clear. Are the rewards set aside when the mission is offered? If not, do you get a bad reputation all round if you can't deliver when the mission is done? I tried it and wound up well hated and not clear why.
According to the hotkey card that came with the CE, Ctrl+Shift+ a number removes the targeted ship(s) from that group number. It's not on the menu of things that can be changed by hotkey. Is anyone getting this to work? I changed some hotkeys in the first game, and I think it may have worked. Doesn't since then. If the hotkey card is not lying, how do you get this function reset? Resetting all bindings doesn't do it. I wo
This will work fine if all members of the group are part of the battle fleet, but what if I want to reassign ships to other areas and want to remove the group number from them? The official hotkey card says Ctrl+Shift+Number removes a ship from a control group. It doesn't seem to have any effect. It seems that the only way to leave a numbered group is to die. It would be nice to have a button that clears a ship from ALL group memberships if it is part of several group
True Crusader, the way some battles play out has a WW2ish feel to it. The feel constantly reminds me of naval actions in David Weber's series, particularly Insurrection and to some extent the Honorverse, though the players, physics and nubmer of ships are not as large. The way SINS deals with phase lines is a nice strategic compromise between wormhole chokepoints and wide open space.
Read the manual, do the tutorials, find the play example thread (with screenshots) in the main forum area, and maybe download someone's replay and skim through it. Find the key bindings option in the game to see what is there. Then play a single player game locked team of 2 with a hard AI on your side against a normal or easy AI player alone on the other team and just play, while watching what your ally is doing and tag along as you get more comfortable. Look at the forums for tips.
OK, having a ship being able to serve as a member of several numbered groups can be useful, but 2 questions: How do you remove a ship from a specific numbered group? The hotkey card says Ctrl+Shift+Number but it doesn't seem to work. Is anyone having success with a hotkey combo? How do you clear all group memberships from a specific ship to make it available for reassignment? The workaround is to create a fresh group and Ctrl+Number to recreate it for
Heavily spamming a single unit type has numerous precedents in military history and in science fiction "military history". There are economic, tactical, or backstory reasons. It's up to the other side to find a counter or win with superior intellect. Then the "spammer" needs to adapt. However, it does sound annoying - haven't been able to connect MP yet.
Any way to delete a post?
I'm having some problems with group and fleet So far as I can tell fleet membership and group membership don't have any effect on each other. Once I found a ship could belong to several groups, I found it handy, but I'm missing any easy way to clear these group memberships to leave a ship fresh for reassignment, other than ctrl-shift-clicking on each possible number for the ships. Any easy way to do this?
