I've tried the offset thing, but apparently I suck at it. :)

You can add rocks to the base (and give it more "planet-like" properties (upgrades, population, etc). I've done that to my game. It sounds to me you've got a typo, or some other sort of formatting error in the entity file. Having seen the black screen several times myself, I'd venture a guess that's what it is.
The string file IS changed, for Uzii's mod, since there are new planet types and researches.
I'm still trying to get textures to wrap right... I'll get it, eventually.
C:\documents and settings\yourname\local settings\application data\ironclad games\sins of a solar empire\ There should be a "settings" "user settings" folder (should be very ovbious when looking at it, this is from memory though). You can open the file with notepad.
You need to make new meshes for each planet to add new textures. I did this with a new moon "planet" (colonizable moon). For instance, if you want to add a new texture to the Ice planets, what I did: Look for Planet_IceX.mesh (where X is a number, 0-3, etc). Copy one, rename it Planet_Ice4.mesh (or whatever you want really, I just kept it sequential). Open the file, and change the bolded parts (it's at the top of the file): Material Diffus
The user file is in the C:\docs&settings\yourname\local files\application data\ironclad games\sins of a solar empire\ You should be able to see it from there.
What's the stance on distributing ALL of the regular textures? Is it ok with the devs? If so, I can probably take a shot at it. I really don't think it's necessary to do it with the entire 1gb+ texture folder though.
Most of that is the textures. You can take out all the regular Sins' textures that aren't changed for the mods (most of them), and then just do it the way Uzii's mod works: Copy the Sins' texture folder to the mod folder, then add the changed ones from the master mod. This would greatly reduce the size of the combined file.
In that case, you can simply drop the mesh and particle folders into your other mod.
Actually, it is that easy. I added it to Uzii's mod. I have my own tweaks in the various gameinfo files, so I didn't even install that part of the effects mod. I just put the mesh and particle folders into Uzii's.
Yep, even added a new research to be able to do so. But it's not quite working yet (need to get with Uzii and see what I'm doing wrong).
I did the mesh/particle routine too. I've got other mods running that have the other gameinfo stuff already tweaked. Good job on them, it definitely makes for more "pretty" fireworks. :) I've got mine added to Uzii's mod, and the texture mod (to which I've added colonizable moons and a number of additional textures). It just keeps growing.
I'm just playing with some different settings right now. Testing the 0.0-1.0 thing now.
Baleurion, thanks for that tip. I'll give it a shot. :)
Been there, done that. A good reason not to mess with code/tiles when you're drunk. :)
Ah, cool. I was wondering if those values had some role in it. Am I correct in assuming that the number emotionRange 1.0 represents 100% (ie full range), whereas 0.5 is 50%? If that's the case, couldn't you set the two levels to 0, and the ranges to 100 to catch all of them? This has got me extremely interested now. If it works, and I can write up a coherent-enough how-to, it may prove useful to people wanting to ad their own music to the game, without having to p
Well, the standard install files are binary, so you'd be hardpressed to edit it without converting it first. I would also highly advise NOT editing files in the main install folder. You fuck up one thing and you have to reinstall the whole game. It'd be easier to grab someone's mod, and just edit those files as you see fit. That's my practice. It leaves the game files untouched.
I think I've found a way to add new (additional, not just replace) tunes into the game. So far it seems to be working. My question is this, is there anything we can do, at this time, to further randomize the tracks the game chooses? The way I see it, the way they're listed in the various files, seems more like a playlist, to be played in order. For instance, whenever you start a game as TEC, the first track you hear is always the same one. I've added a few more to them, and th
I'm hoping so. :)
There's also a research subject you can do to increase them. But I agree, they're pretty short-range as-is.
#2 is my concern. Hopefully they don't change the format of things, if they don't, current mods *should* be ok. I've modded several games before, that needed to have their mods re-modded for every patch. It's a huge pain in the ass, but there's not a lot you can do about it.
I think I figured out how to actually add more tunes to the game. I need to confirm it this weekend, but it's working so far. Eg: it appears you can have as many battle tunes as you want. I'm up to about 20 so far.
I've been playing around with textures too. I'm currently adding more variations of existing planets. I now have 4 ice planets and 4 volcanic planets, I even added a moon "planet" type (with 4 variations). The trouble I'm having, is getting them to wrap seamlessly. Is there a trick to that? I didn't happen to get a screenshot and I'm at work, so... This is pretty much for my personal use since the textures I'm using are from X3, and I can't distribute them wi
Yep, can't wait. :)
