As I mentioned in another thread... one way to change the game's focus on encouraging focus fire might be to remove mitigation and replace it with a critical hit system. I finished that for my own mod and it makes capital ships feel quite substantial. (hit the shields, they're fine, hit the hull, they might have a critical problem).Without mitigation, and with powerful capital ships, they can definitely hurt other ships seriously, but can still be overwhelmed by superior numbers... the 'd

I'm going to try replicating it again myself. As I said, I was using 1.02 when it happened, so it could've changed in 1.03. It might be an individual problem, since it doesn't seem that everyone with 1.03 is effected, strangely enough, unless they are just being silent or having noticed yet. Ron Lugge, I specifically mentioned "After the time limit" so obviously this problem carried on after the 2 minute hold. Starrider, hey :p Nice Avatar. I'm using the rampant manticore for m
But I know I'd feel shortchanged if I couldn't play a map for more than 90 minutes. The best part is just as you approach victory near the end! Why would you deny the most satisfying part of the game to new players?
Again, I repeat my statement. You didn't pay anything for the demo, so you can't be shortchanged. You don't get negative returns if you don't pay anything in the first place. You are taking zero risks by playing the demo since you are not spending any m

Yeah, this is odd. I had a slightly similar case (although I haven't tested it on 1.03, so I don't know if it's still doing it). When I had an alliance broken against me, my ships would freely engage the ships of my former ally turn enemy, after the time limit was up, but for some reason, I'd have to order my units to attack Logistical and Tactical structures personally. They wouldn't auto engage. I could understand, possibly, why Logistical structures could be ignored, but Tactical?

Lol, right on, Szoreny. GeForce4 MX RIP. Go big Glitchboy, save up money, and bask in the beauty of amazing graphics, although I am with dakdak77. Gameplay is far more preferable to pretty graphics. Nostalgia runs deep in my veins, and I like games like the Atelier Iris series, Ar Tonelico and the various other creations by NIS America and Gust, which are new games, but feature simpler graphics, in favor of incredible stories and awesome gameplay mechanics. I'm not so big into pure eyec

I just love how the OP keeps emphasizing the PERCIEVED value of this demo. I would like to offer just one little hint: It's a demo, a free demo. It has a value of Zero, as in, you do not pay anything for it. So how can you complain at the near full features offered in this free demo which offers a much greater percentage of it's total features then any other game I've seen demo'ed out there? Ok, personally, I'm annoyed at any demo that offers perhaps 1

But still, all in all, you guys are talking about minutes to make back what was used. These games last hours, which means the cost of making the investment will be long since paid off and made back hundreds of times over. So, as I said before, investments always cost more upfront, but it'll get things rolling. Properly made investments will pay big, allowing you to make further developments and growth programs, further increasing your rate of resource gathering. And even
Try zooming in.
Ditto. Try looking at those tiny dots by the planet icons when you are zoomed out. You'll find it's not easy. So, to simplify things, when you are zoomed out, it only shows icons representing ships, planets, whatever, but when you zoom in and take a closer looks (default, mouse wheel scroll up), you can get a detailed look at bigger ships and frigates, and if you zoom in closer, you can see fighters/bombers (represented by white dots and contrails, cause t

Ahh, excellent. If that is the case, then it should work now. I have loaded up 1.03. I still had 1.02 since I started that match only shortly after the 1.03 patch was released, but I didn't know about it. Since saved games don't run after a new patch is loaded, I figured on just finishing that one before installing the new patch. Well, plenty of opportunity to get PI now. I've still got the rest of the Tech Achievements to do. I've only played 2 matches so far (I've been trying t
Caps should get a HUGE speed up. mass has little to no effect on movement in space, theres no atmosphere to slow you down with friction and little to no gravity, so the bigger ship should technically move faster simply because its engines are bigger.
No gravity in space might make ships weight drop to zero, and no atmosphere might cut out friction, but neither of those do anything to mass and, more importantly Momentum. Yeah, you wouldn't really think about colonizing asteroids, but it is doable. They don't offer many planetary upgrades, but they are still effective as observational outposts and invasion speed bumps.
I think they are about right. After thinking about it I realize this game actually has ship classifications that draw parallels to Star Wars (and I'm surprised people have been comparing them to modern navies instead of other sci-fi fleets.) Fighters are of course the dynamic little ships that the movies focused on (including the Millennium Falcon.) Frigates and Cruisers were basically everything else, with some of them being labeled as Capital Ships. A Super Star Destroyer would probably
why do I get the most powerful ships at the beginning and have to struggle through the tech tree for middling cruisers?
That's definately something. When I first started playing (actually, that pirate base battle I mentioned was from my first game. I've only played 2 now. I'm new to the game), I kept searching through the military tech tree for the Cap Ship research. It wasn't till later that I found that Cap Ships could be had without any research, which is nuts. And fu

Personally, I think it's awesome that it takes longer for Cap ships to take out Frigates, instead of doing 1 hit wonders, or maybe a few more hits. Of course, I could be overly influenced by David Weber's Honor Harrington series, where battles between Battlecruisers and Dreadnaughts can last hours, with a proper balance of cunning and surprise, even though Dreadnaughts, while not as large and powerful as Superdreadnaughts, are vastly larger and more powerful than Battlecruisers.

Alway has something there. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but when you have a culture center in a planet with only 1 phase lane, it's got twice as much culture spread rate as one with 2, and thrice more then with 3 lanes. At the same time, if that one planet reaches another planet and spreads beyond, the culture that reaches that planet spreads out evenly over the remaining phase lanes. So, while it might look like culture doesn't spread when it's further from a culture center, actually, it jus

Yeah, setting the AI on easy is always the best way of getting a feel for the game. I did my first game doing a 1v1 random race in a single small star system (randomly generated), and even though it took me a little over 13 hours to beat it, I did beat it, although admittedly, I spent more of my time wasting it, smoothing out edges, teching, and building a full fleet to take the pirate base (which, by this time, had over 900 ships, about 700 of them being Corsairs and Cutthroats. Killed them all

Yes, there is a Tutorial to pratice on. Just open up Single Player, and it's there. You can't really differentiate between single player and skirmish. The specific map types are just pre-made maps, and the random maps are just that, randomly generated based on a specific pre-set parameter. You can also "design" your own map, but all in all, your "designed" map is really just a random map where you define the parameters, like size, planets, resources, etc. Really, all in all, yo

Scuttle is your best friend when you need to expand or you develop new technologies with better prototypes. So, if you feel something is a waste of slots, scuttle it. Better to dump it for something better and get some resources back, than to lose it in combat and get nothing back.

It's showing 5,000 because when you develop graphs and charts, you leave room at the top for scientific purposes. If no one on a match had a fleet limit exceeding 1,000, then the summary would probably top out at 1,000, as the next lower logical graph limit. It seems the Summary uses, primarily, the 5's and 10's scheme for charting the graph.

Basically, trade routes rates are based on the longest single direct route, including trips through wormholes and through other star systems. The game automatically calculates the longest route (without loopholes), then applies, it looks like, .1 credit/s per "planet" the route passes through (so this includes asteroid belts, wormholes and stars, etc, that are not even occupied by a controlled mineral processor, so long as it is not broken up by hostile or non-trade pact agreeing empires). <

It's called an investment, and investments always cost more upfront, just to get things on the roll. It's far better to spend some early on, build those extra buildings and/or expand early on, then to wait several minutes acquiring resources in order to slowly expand, thus falling behind on the power curve, and opening yourself to early rushes. Admittedly, if you are a good player, capable of keeping up with your growth, using the Empire Tree effectively, and paying attention to your economy, yo
