Vasari, more for the mood.Although I like the B5 vibe I get from both the TEC and Advent (come on, the Advent Are the Mimbari. You know it's true)
Hehheh, darn right. Advent are certainly a favored race for me, and that's one of the reasons. Always been a huge B5 fan.

Try to use Desert or Terran worlds as Choke points, then use the Logistical slots for Frigate Factories. I've already written this strat out else where, and a few others have mentioned it, but anyways, here it is: Build 2 factories at each phase lane, one on either side of the phase in arc (the 45 degree arc in which a fleet can phase in). Support each with Repair Bays and Hangars (imo, better choices then guns. Better range and more flexibility, especially Advent Hangars). Then, when y

The 6 legged reptilian scientists were the Chamachies, and their special ability is Instant Discovery, ie, any tech they were researching currently, could be completely finished, regardless of time left. Great for those really long technologies. Being a Research lover myself (love tech rushes and such), the Chamachies were my favorite race, although I also liked playing the Hanshaks, who could communicate with all the aliens from the beginning, and the Balifids, who were awesome diploma

Same deal Aasch. I go ahead and toss up a cap ship factory or 2 when I advance a few stars. A nice, easy way of consolidating your planets and securing your military supply lines by placing heavy development closer to the front, then staggered on the way back so that a raiding fleet focusing on factories can't knock off too many factory planets in a row, giving more time to focus defensive fleets and converge where they are needed.

Hmm, it would be nice to have a more variable fleet limit then merely selecting small, normal, or large fleet in the options. But, imo, having the smaller fleet cap is fine. Makes managing far flung fleets easier, and makes strategic planning more important. Also, can't forget that all groups have the same limit. And if you really want to get ahead, pick Vasari. With the right tech, you can get a 15% boost on the fleet cap, which gives a nice edge. So, all in all, if the fleet cap were

Every race has 2 techs for special jumps (Star and Wormhole). They'll be easy to understand since the description should be sufficient. Oh, and I think you should know. When you want ships to jump to another star, they have to go to the star in the current system before jumping to another star. It's not a matter of sending a fleet to the edge of a system then telling the fleet to jump. Seems wierd, especially since you don't see phase lanes, but that's how it is. As for wormholes, also,

Hmm, I've had a case where I built a Phase Stab so I could get my fleet behind a Pirate base (I captured around it, with my fleet forming a front ahead, in the direction of the enemy), but when I sent my fleet across to intercept a raiding fleet, those I sent went across, except my highest level cap ship!!! Since the artificial phase lane was crossing the pirate base, my fleet moved, but my cap ship stopped at the base, which had in excess of 900 ships. My cap ship was vaporized in second

Yeah, Ascendancy has been just as stuck as Duke Nukem had been, with less recognition :( Which is a shame, because, even with all the bugs and quirks, Ascendancy was an awesome game. Still playable too, on DosBox. Actually played it a couple years ago. Still fun :p I just hope they don't destroy it like Microsoft destroyed Shadow Run. I sure hope someone repairs that damage. Otherwise, I'm stuck playing only the Sega Genesis version on my emulator. I enjoy it still, but, I would like a

It's a starry aura or something like that, that rings the edge of the icon. Right click it to turn it off. Also, when you hover your mouse cursor over the icon, the info card will tell you if Autocast is enabled or disabled. And for the Novalith Cannon, you need to do that. Otherwise, the 360 second (?) cooldown will prevent you from using it strategically.

Hey, cheers. Good times are coming. Didn't see problems in that extreme sense (I play long games) but it's good that I won't have to anyways. Wouldn't been annoying. Nice catch, Flouncy.
Best counter I have found is a delaying system that wears down an enemy also. Say carriers that hang out in systems just long enough to kill some ships then retreat to the next system to get fighters back and repeat the process. Add in some hangers here and there along the way to thicken a bit.In each system I have a repair bay or 2 and say 2 frigate factories if I can afford the space. Then I build units along his path to do damage and delay... if he has to stop to deal with them you hav

Hmm, fatal errors from seeing the demo loaded? Well, that's certainly interesting. Most demo's and full version programs don't care about the other, and can simultaneously be loaded. Course, I never got the demo, so I won't argue with those who did *goes to write that tidbit down for future reference* And looks like three of us, so far, are suggesting a reload, so I guess I'm not totally insane, lol. So yeah, if you go that route, back up your personal stuff, restore/reformat, and thing

12 Replies 9,237 Views

Hmmm, well, if it's a year old and acquired from someone else, I would suggest a reformat. Normally, you should reformat at least once a year. It's probably bogged down with a lot of junk that's corrupting system files. Also, a rule of thumb, whenever you get a new computer, whether new from the store or used from someone else, you should always ask for all program disks that would come with the machine, especially the master disk, which runs the reformat and loads all core files, including the

Hmmm, not really enough info to work with there. Have you tried any programs designed to clear out Spyware, Adware, Malware, and Trojans? Something there could be corrupting the drivers for your CD/DVD-Rom drive, killing your installation. Could you give at least some basic stats on your computer, how old it is, when you last reformatted your hard drive, hard drive space remaining? Anything could help.

I certainly agree that having additional outside moderation can be risking entry level powermongers damaging the reps of the heads. If, and I emphasize if it comes to the point where outside moderation is needed, those outside moderators need limitation. Post locking and deletion w/ justification, maintaining order, giving warnings, again w/ justification, and referals to higher powers. That's IT. And only in certain public boards like the Off topic boards, Strat boards, Mod boards and su

Hehheh, lol, Silveressa :p I was thinking about that as well, and have tried to work my posts in that way ;) Got my ambitions to consider :p I've taken part in supporting game forum moderators (although I haven't had the opportunity to be one before) and know that having volunteer co-mods helps maintain order far better then just having a few people already busy with their main jobs. So it's certainly something I'd support, whether directly or indirectly. And ditto with Sorcere

Ahhh, I see. Well, same thing applies. Not everyone would do LRM spams, for which the Fighter is key to defending against. They may add in Cap Ships, which, imo, are far more dangerous, even if other ships, massed, can cause more damage. So, start bomber heavy, with some fighters, and if an opposing player pushes further, seed your defences in the back with more Fighters. In fact, follow the Allegiance scale, based on cultural connection, not counting Advent tech. Around 35% fighters at border w

I've certainly saved myself from a myraiad of troubles with Hangar Defense. Sure, I said focus on fighters in reply #2, but I do actually split between Fighters and Bombers. An AI won't just stick with Frigates or just Cruisers and Cap Ships. They'll have a mixed bag. So I've really just split them 50/50, or maybe 33/67, with emphasis on Bombers.

Efexeye, I can agree that those can be a waste sometimes, although, when you get down to it, anything that improves the morale and quality of work of Blair and friends (who see praise as a sign that people love and want more of SoaSE) must be a good thing.

PhonSiEtm, if you did read this thread, then you'll know why some of us are getting all up in arms about trolling. And it does effect our lives, far more then you think. Rising tempers leading to increased blood pressure which can lead to heart attack or stroke. Not pleasant. I know.
