I don't know about a dream ship, but this is something I did aaaaages ago with Wings3D. I was messing around with modular stuff so you could swap out front and weapons sections. Anyway I'm a musician, not a modeller but it's still fun once in a while! In fact, just found these...even older. Some of the first things I did with Wings in fact. Again, modular and what not. But n

Hey all! Got a bit of an epic CPU skirmish on the go at the moment. It's sorta mid-late game, I'm playing as TEC and have 4 or 5 Novaliths. I've been hammering away at a Vasari faction for most of the game (no idea what the other 3 are up to...I expect I'll find out soon enough), I'd pushed them back into the corner of the system and I found their homeworld, plus what looked to be their only other big/well developed system. So I fired 2 Novaliths at one, and 2 at the o

I remember trying out Homeworld 2 a while back and even though it's a pretty old game, self-shadowing on ships killed the framerate. Turns out e

I'll admit I was a little dismayed about the lack of moveable turrets...at first. But once I get playing, I really don't notice it. I spend so much time looking at the bigger picture that even if they were turned on, I wouldn't get to see them. One way around it, I guess, would be to make the turrets less...conventional (and so less noticeable that they don't move). I don't know too much about ballistics (and especially ballistics in space) but would a turret need to look like a turre

A really good interview! I'm glad that Blair acknowledged the skill gap that's emerging between hardcore players (who are heavily involved with, and well versed in the betas and change logs) and the casual players like myself who probably won't appreciate these purely numerical and statistical changes. I'm really looking forward to the 2nd and 3rd expansions. Here's to the continued success of IC!

Just to wade in on this - I wouldn't let the lack of campaign put you off. Think what a typical mission in a space based RTS would be: destroy this, protect that, wait for reinforcements then go do whatever. Sounds like another day in the Sins universe! I mean okay, there's the reward associated with revealing the plot (if it's a good one) and at the moment, that's very much something that's left to the imagination. They sort of set the backdrop, introduce the factions
Annatar already mentioned it, you can make all ships basically fly around. But: Fighters gain an edge, as you pointed out, frigates, cruisers and capitals have fixed weapon arcs. Flak Frigates also seem shine a bit more (I only assume that, they have huge firing arcs after all). I tried it, and it changes gameplay quite significantly. You will also have a bit issues to select single units. <br
Entrenchment introduced fighter physics for ships as a mod option. So you can play around with it, or take a look at ManSh00ter's Dynamic Battles mod that does it.
:-o No way. Does this come included with it? Or just means that it's a supported option for any future mods? This, I will have to investimagate!!

I've only played Sins over LAN with my old housemate against the CPU. That seemed to work well as we could both agree on a time to stop. I do want to get into online play (I think I'd like to forge some alliances on here first so I've got some people on my side haha) but I'm not sure how it'd work if like...I'm in a game with a bunch of people and I have to leave. Getting my ass kicked, well that I'm not so worried about. It'll most definitely happen.&nbs

So do we think there's any way that ship battles in Sins could ever be a bit more...dynamic? At the moment they kind of take their positions and then slog it out. Or is this how it'd be done in 'real life'? On the one hand I was thinking that giving them fighter/bomber behaviour might be one idea, so they'd move around a lot more and make attack runs at their targets. Of course the other side of this is that battles could go on for a very long time, mainly due to t

Issues of morality aside (and it's really quite a futile thing to discuss in a game where the objective is to rule an entire galaxy...nothing moral about that!) I think being given a choice between bombing and invasion would add more depth to the game beyond moving to a planet, killing the ships, killing the civs, moving to another planet, killing the ships, killing the civs, etc. etc. As has already been said in this thread, bombing isn't rewarded as it is: you lose planet upgrades,

I actually quite like the coloured sky boxes off :) Kinda gives more of a deep space feel to it. Does, however, make keeping track of things in your grav well a little easier. More contrast and that.

Wow. I just checked out the gameplay video....very impressive stuff!!! I noticed that there seemed to be a bit more movement during the battles, as opposed to the typical Sins battle where every ship picks a spot then sits there getting hammered. Accidental? Or is this behaviour you've managed to introduce? In any case, really nice work. Absolutely love BSG :)

Hey, thanks for the reply! At least it's not just me. For the most part it's not too noticeable - it'd be better if I could at least set the duration of text events so they don't hang around for like, 20 seconds. In any case I'll post my DX Diag to them and see what they make of it. Cheers!

Hey all, just a quicky this. I've noticed that whenever text comes up on screen (such as whispers from AI, or the text prompts in the tutorials) the frame rate decreases quite a bit. It goes back to being reasonably smooth as soon as the text fades out. Any ideas? Not to undermine the problems that anyone may be having with Impulse but I've found it very easy to use. My experience with Steam was not so good - I bought Half Life 2 while I was at Uni and my dorm room only had dialup. Before I could even play the damn game it had to decrypt or validate every file online. It took about 4 hours, plus install time. Not impressed. In any case it's very easy to complain about delivery methods for updates and all that, but

When I say minimal I'm talking flat-shading, more of a vivid "Tron" look, almost a

Hey all! New to the game and new to the forums *waves* Agreed, there is a lot of room for improvement with diplomacy but there's only so much we can expect in a v1.x release. So at the very least, slightly more believable behaviour would be good. Example: I totally backstabbed my Vasari buddies of 4 hours by breaking the ceasefire and unleashing 6 Novaliths on them. Then they tried to intimidate me into giving them 200 metal and asked me for a trade alliance haha. R
