Steam overlay! That was the culprit. Disabled it and everything is fine.

Tell a lie - there's an update there. It just didn't notify me. I may well end up with egg on my face. Will know in about 20 minutes! *gets ready to facepalm*
Very recently, and Nvidia control panel hasn't told me there are any updates.
Hey all. Just bought Rebellion on Steam. My PC is a Phenom II X4 965BE with a GeForce 8600GT (I know, old...but I intend to upgrade soon). Got 4GB system ram. Win 7 64-bit Home Premium, all updates applied. I let the game choose all of its own detail levels. Problem is, as soon as I start the game - even on the menu - the picture goes black, then it's fine, then black, then fine. While the picture is on, I can see that the game runs smooth enough. But it won't stop blinking!
Great stuff :) Looking forward to seeing what the 'something big' is. As for idea spotting: Surface to orbit gauss array - sounds new to me. Also can we currently view what's coming towards us in a phase lane? I know there's that PSIDAR (or is it PSYDAR) research but I can't for the life of me think what it does.
Maybe when they're done with SoaSE they can make a spin off game...Sin City (apologies to Mr Miller and Maxis) ;) All the empire micro you could hope for, with all the spacey stuff going on over your head, mostly out of your control! Imagine how frustrating it'd get after your planet has been bombarded for the nth time, though...
Everything you get to do in a campaign you get to do in Sins. The only difference is it happens in a different way each time, so the replayability factor is way higher. I guess if they're going to do one at all they could either... ...expand on the back story of each faction by way of missions with scripted events and dialogue/cut scenes. So have the player go through 'historic' missions that deal with the early years of the TEC when the in-fighting and rebellion w
I know a planets allegiance is directly affected by culture (which is why you need to spread it even to planets you already own if they're far away from your 'core' worlds). Other than that I don't know of any other number or stat in the game that relates to it.
A number of people have experienced slowdown regardless of their system specs. So you're not alone! I think it's a recognised issue...
Nothing to do with DRM but the Sims 3 looks killer! And yes, I'm just going to make virtual versions of everyone I know and make them walk around my dream house in pants. Is that so wrong? IS IT?
I'm sure this has been asked before but here goes: Seeing how so many people here have such a strong opinion on Impulse and on IC using any kind of DRM on their software, what would these same people do instead? What would THEY do to protect their game? A genuine question - very interested to know the answer. With regards to accessing previous versions of the game, the first thing that strikes me is SUPPORT. How do we expect IC to cope with the logistics of a

AVAST YE SCUM RIDDEN PLANET SHAGGERS!
I'm rolling in it! Wait. No I'm not.
Goofballs. Definitely goofballs.
Apparently this is something that's going to be addressed in the upcoming diplomacy expansion. I think they're also going to work on the mission system too - I mean it'd be nice to be able to make demands of weaker AI's. Have them giving me credits and crystal and suchlike :)
Yeah the zoomed out view in Homeworld 2 was cool! Although you couldn't tell what anything was, but they were on to a good idea. See I was thinking it could still be kept 3D, but perhaps stripping away the extra detail geometry, removing reflection and bump mapping, and reducing it to very vivid 'block' shading. The current draw distance and point at which they become strategic icons could be kept the same. As for projectiles I'm not sure how that'd work. Per
Okay I've made this suggestion a couple of times in other sub forums, but I'm interested to know what anyone thinks of it, and also how much work it would be! Okay so here's the deal: I was thinking how a lot of RTS games can be thought of as virtual representations of the battle-area to give the commander more control. In real life, however, would this kind of commander interface really be as effects heavy? So, how about a purely 'functional' version of Sins. Same g

I see it smooth(ish) on the outside, and super detailed on the grey bit. :) Oh and yeah Seth - that reminds me of an idea I had ages ag

I can think of a good 3 or so episodes in the latter half o
Okay I'm gunna make a wild assumption here and say that a fair number of Sins players also like the re-imagined BSG! So, has anyone watched the finale yet and if so...what do you make of it! I'm gunna go ahead and say the battle between Galactica and the Colony ship is probably the best sequence from all four seasons (perhaps joint best with the time Adama let the ship free-fall through the atmosphere, launched vipers then FTL'd about 100ft off the ground). And her final
anybody know of a way to run sins at 1024 x 600 this game is perfect for netbooks if only the menus would fit on screen
Ignoring the fact that the average Sins game would utterly SLAUGHTER an Atom processor and intergrated Intel graphics ;) Still, it's a nice thought. I think you hold a modifier while using the move command, like shift or control or something. Can't remember exactly and I'm not at a computer with Sins on it atm. But I know it is doable on purpose!
