I think they have a special ability (through the tech tree) that gives them assault bots, but I dont believe they can attack any other way.

The only reason Hoshikos and the light carriers dont attack is they cannot attack. Capital carriers will move and attack other ships if you direct them to, because they do have some weapons. I dont typically build any flak frigates, I rely on fighters and I direct them to kill enemy strikecraft separately. In my fleets, I have the light carriers and capital carriers set to 'Hold position', so they just launch their strikecraft and stay where they are (out of the battle).
To the OP, comparing Returning Armada to the super weapons is apples to oranges. The Vasari have their own super weapon also, the Kostura Cannon. Returning Armada is more like Advent's Mass Trancendency or TEC's Insurgency.
The first few times I played TEC, I also thought the Marza was weak compared to the Kol, but it's not bad. Recently I have tried building and using the Marzas more, and once they start getting levels under their belt, they are monsters.
/agree Wiley I was playing Vasari the other day and had a colonizer ship up a few levels. The nano-disassembler was doing 1200 damage-over-time. I could just pop it on cruisers and then fire at something else while the nanites ate the cruiser. When it refreshed (which is fairly quick), I would pop another ship. Frigates and cruisers all died from one shot of nanites. The nanites go directly to the hull, and ignore armor and shields.
Heh, nope. Just lets you take a straight line between any planets who have stabilizers. It's a huge advantage for the Vasari, I think. They dont even need Returning Armada with their stabilizers.
My favorite is the artifact that lowers your research costs by 25%. Found that one 2 or 3 times.
I generally dont have any trouble defending my colonies. I use turrets, repair structures, and hangar defense - but usually just one or two hangars and repair bays. Turrets I will put about 5 or 6 in a colony, and rebuild them on the fly if they are being destroyed by an attack. What I generally do is place 5 to 10 heavy combat cruisers at key colonies who act as a delaying force (along with the hangars and turrets), until my reactionary force can arrive. I keep a fleet of capitals (3 t
Also, dont forget to tell all carriers and light carriers (cruisers) to Hold Position. Then they can just sit by the repair structure, and they will launch their strikecraft, but they wont move to the battle. They will fire at anything that comes into their engagement range, also. Also, Tumbler, a capital carrier when it gets experience gets more squadrons. A level 10 capital carrier has 7 squadrons, not just 2. I generally build mostly bomber squadrons, because I use them to a
