I've only been playing tec thus far, but I prefer to pick up a kol battleship and a colonizer frigate as my first choices. Why waste your precious free cap ship on a colonizer when a cheap frigate will do the same job? I prefer a cap ship with an ability to punch a hole in an enemy fleet, instead of one who's ability sits impotently idle until the battle is over.
My reason. -Frigate colonizers are expensive and get raped without backup, even with backup, all fire

Yeah, I realized that about ten seconds after I double checked the research area, so I changed the question on you two :P
What I don't get... When you get your free cap. ship, why would you get anything other than a cap. ship that can colonize. I am seriously wondering if I am missing some strategy, or if some people are just morons.
Thanks for the responses Norrec/Necron/iron. I guess building a quick cap ship factory- followed by a cap ship build, then metal/crystal extractors, followed by scouts, and simultaneous infrastructure improvement is the way to go...
I saw three posts, and was like, woot! :P Alright though, thanks for the help bro.
I have trouble getting of the ground in even the smallest of games (1v1 and 2v2). By the time I send out a colony ship, the other teams already has 4 planets and a fleet three times the size of mine. What are some basic strats and advice for starting quick, and what faction/units are best for early game. Thanks for your replies...
Not sure anybody is going to waste two and a half hours on a random video of you winning a match... Anyways, for now, TEC > Advent 99% of the time.
