Woop, I came here and didn't even say anything about the topic. And my Edit button seems to have disappeared. I think it is fine how capital's are right now, maybe the one's that broadside could have some lateral movement, like circle strafing around the target. Frigates on the other hand, it would be nice to have some movement with certain frigates, like the main fighting ones, but ones like the long range frigates it makes sense for them to not be flying all over the place. I'm fine with how it is now, some 3D movement would be nice, but there is already so much to watch over when your playing that I don't even notice the lack of 3D movement. And to the people who say that 3D movement wouldn't work on 2D screens, have you ever heard of a little game called Homeworld? Though I do find that sometimes in Sins as battles progress or after a battle, I'll rotate the camera and find ships really high or low in space.
If you need testers I can help with that, don't know much on the scripting side and what not. Though I am getting into modeling fairly seriously now. Anyway, it's looking great and I absolutely loved it for Homeworld 2 so I'm sure it will be great here too.
