It's generally unpractical to defend tons of outworld planets. If you gotta lose something, you probably will whether you have turrets, hangars, or what, unless you have ALOT of them, which is, as stated, unpractical. The best defense is generally a good offense in this game; be aggressive, and they'll usually be too pressured to do their own attacks. Worlds you capture on the outer rims of your empire can serve a cheap and effective defense, because enemies will usually stop to try to

Oops. Something got lost while editing that, I meant pulling the bombers aside, drawing the flaks to them and then focus firing them while they're separated.
However, with a single flak being able to take out 60-70 bombers, flak's high armor...
What. You're either exaggerating or insane. You could try pulling the bombers aside, drawing the flaks to them (hopefully).
So, the easy way to take out Heavy Cruisers I've always found is to use bombers.
Could always just do it the hard way, you can't always expect people to not be prepared for the "easy" way.
I agree totally that carriers need some love. I also think strike craft could use a couple strike craft specific upgrades. As to capitals getting demolished, well, what do you expect? With a large fleet, if they focus fire, there's not much you can do; they're just ships, even if they get experience, and ships die. There's a reason you can build 16 of them.
I'm disappointed with these concerns, personally. I see too much Advent getting hammered on when I honestly think they need something. This "something" shouldn't be a single overpowered unit, or a "broken" combo, but they certainly need... something.
Pepmus I Pepmus II Pepmus III Pepmus IV Pepmus V Pepmus VI Pepmus VII Pepmus VIII Pepmus IX Pepmus X etc... Or thats the usual convention for planets. Capital ships... I get a bit more creative, but I don't stick by any names in particular here. Personal favorites include THE SWAARM (carriers only) GiantEnemyCrab (and variations)
I was having a similar issue until I tried this: make sure you enter the serial number with dashes in between where it indicates, and make sure it is NOT capitalized. At least, the time it worked, that's what I did. Hope this helps.
