Mazuo, I think that is what red was trying to do in that picture above. However, I expanded through the roids and blocked him from expanding. So, sure, your fleet only has to be in one place, but it will get crushed.

Are you runing Vista? If you are, you first need to download the files to some arbitary directory or the desktop. Once the files are saved, copy them to the correct folder in the program files directory. -MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!*sucks*!!!!*cough*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-
Kitkun, I think you missed the point of my thread. I am arguing that the nerf is too much in v1.09 and that I would rather have it be closer to that of v1.05.
Oh, here's a link to the forum about how one guy complained so much about the subverter he modded it out of the game. [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/319783"]WWW Link[/link] Obviously, I agree with Annatar's and Raging's posts in that thread (post 2 & 3).
Did you ever think of using a counter JR? The subverter cannot lock down capital ships or fighters/bombers. The subverter is easily countered. I am not saying that perhaps a little nerf is in order (maybe even a unit limit on the area of effect), but the nerf they put in place is huge, especially on the v1.09 battlefield. Can I just be honest for a second here? Question: Why have ships that are really cool (but are high on the tech tree) that are nerfed beyond belief? <br
I had the same "error". However, I could host games just fine. See this thread if you want a more in depth discussion (the more in depth discussion is actually in Annatar's thread link).[link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/319580"]WWW Link[/link]
Good advice. Too bad all the people who need this advice don't even know the forums exist.
If you mean the minidump problem, then the answer is yes. I got about 2 minidumps in about 12 beta games, but those minidumps were after a lot of game play, and not a few minutes into. If you meant something else, I have no clue.
@ Nypryren Actually, I am talking about the random map generator, like the one where you host a game and you pick "Random-Large (Single)". While I am sure the same problems exist for the map-creator that comes with the game, that is just a subset of the bigger problem. And yes, not being able to auto-upload is a problem, but has also been beaten to death on these forums.
@ Kaltes - That's the way it's supposed to be. The two star systems get populated at the start of the game. The other three are there for you to fight over. This is not a defect in the random map generator.
Maybe if you are playing the AI all the time and don't mind getting screwed by your position, sure, this "randomness" is great. However, for those of us who play MP, getting screwed in your starting position costs you the game. I think you can fix problem #1 without taking the randomness out of it. The whole idea of the random map is that your don't know where things arem, therefore you have to scout and adjust your strategy accordingly. Summary: Random shouldn't equal screwed.
This needs pinned.
Ok, I think the HP and shield bonuses are obvious. When I saw the post title, I was thinking, "the game changers". I don't consider teching a ship to be a favorite. Otherise, every Advent player would vote Illum hands down. I would say my favorite is the phase missle tree, culture damage bonus, subverter in grav-well jumps, gravity tolerance, phasic transmissions (increased fleet supply without a permanent hit to the econ), and phase gates. The phase missiles rock and the phase gates give y
What?!?!?! The phase missiles are what makes the Vasari fleet something to be feared. I love those things. No cap is safe, especially with the space whale by their side. Just shoot a nano thingy at them, then shoot the gravity bomb before the cap tries to phase jump out, and bam, no more enemy cap. What is truely amazing about these things is that contrary to one of the above posts, the ship will die once the HP goes to zero even though the shields are probably still up. As others have poin
I know I haven't played the beta in a week, but my last few v1.05 games reminded me that the random map generator sucks, and still sucks in v1.09. The problem is two-fold. 1) You can get hosed at your start point. For example, you should have AT LEAST two phase lanes from your HW (I think 3 should be mandatory). However, there have been numerous occasions where you only get 1, or the 2nd phase lane goes to something dead (like a dead roid or a
@CommanderAdama Read my other posts on why I left the beta. It's flat broke - how can you test the beta (i.e., balance) when people exploit a bug all the time. When the devs fix the fighter bug, I will go back to beta testing, and convince others to as well.
Wow, good post. I agree with 95% of what you said this game needs. People have been calling for a fix in starting positions for sometime. One could hope that the devs would say yes or no to this already (HINT). I think I have seen this in at least 7 other threads. It has already been discussed in multiple threads that carriers are the new spam unit for v1.09. People can argue to me till they are blue in the face that LFs with the anitmatter ability teched are the counter, but I would disag
If they got a hotfix up for the one major issue, the fighter bug, I would probably go back to beta testing (and drag a few people with me). It's pretty hard to test the balance of a game when people abuse a bug ;p In any event, it would be nice to hear from them.
BTW, the purpose of such a cap is to ensure that people don't spam refineries and it also ensures that you place them strategically, that is, at locations with lots of phase lanes or logistics slots. Oddly enough, spamming trade ports works beautifully. You can get well over 200 cred/sec with 15 planets/roids. My personnal oppion on the whole matter is that refineries (both the tech and the cost to build) doesn't justify them, unless you get a planet that has 4 or 5 phase lanes and they are a
Phalnax has an excellent suggestion. If the range on flak were to be increased, then you have an effective counter and the flak don't need to be running all over the gravity well to get one shot off. I would also suggest decreasing the flak nerf from 43% to 25%. Increasing their effectiveness against bombers would also be great: In World War II, how many fighters got shot down over Germany due to flak? How many bombers got shot down by flak? I think if you think about it logically, flak sh
Based on my usage of the subverter in previous versions and in v1.09, I have come to conclude the subverter should not have been nerfed. Because the subverter does not affect strikecraft and because strikecraft have become more effective in v1.09, I think that the subverter can be effectively countered wihtout nerfing it. Additionally, the subverter has paper thin armor, strikecraft can kill it in no time. People who complain about the subverter being overpowered do not know
Hey Anne, Take the peoples advice and build a diverse fleet. If you can't win without cheating, what's the point in playing?
Let me just say, that if it takes say 4 planets to get you 1 artifact, your gambling will mean your doom if you are playing against me; all those resources will have bought me more ships and more upgrades (or more econ, if you played me you know what I mean). I have yet to see a good player explore for artifacts in a game. And if they do, it's because they are on my team, winning, and have way too much money to know what do to with.
So, I finally post on this thread. If your clan is inexperienced, we wouldn't mind doing a 3v5 or something. However, to all those experienced people out there that want us to play 3v5 against them, I have this to say "PLEASE STOP ASKING." Playing a 3 hour game 1v3 just gets boring after awhile. Like others have said, we will gladly give you advice in what you are doing wrong, accept the advice and be nice about it. We are a slightly more gentle group of guys, but don't be rude to
I can confirm that I can host now, yay! However, I couldn't find enough games so I am back to being a v1.05 brat. When there are sufficient numbers on the beta, I will get back in.
