I had the invalid save file message too; all my saved games, and autosaves. I updated my graphics drivers, and restarted the computer. Afterwards all the save files were apparently restored. Don't ask me how that worked, my computer does the strangest things somedays... It might be something worth trying though.

I've had that happen. It's usually any AI players that I was allied with at point of victory that this happens to, or otherwise the last AI standing in the game. To avoid it you need to not let the program declare you the victor until the last possible moment. Try declaring war on all AI right before you think you're gonna win, this will trick the computer into giving a longer game until the victory conditions are meet.

Most likely not. Everyone has their own strategy for playing the game. I play maps with two AI opponents and 80-90 planets, those take 7-10 hours. I play defensively. I add a lot of defenses to my planets, build starbases, and work hard at completing research fast, usually at the expense of a large fleet. I rely heavily on diplomacy and cease fires to keep the AI off my back until after I am 50% with all reasearch, and have a strong economy. Because of this I take mu

I've noticed these inconsistencies. I played a 3 player map (1 person, 2 AI) recently. The first AI surrendered relatively early in the game; about the time I jumped to the star at its home system (it didn't even try to defend themselves). The second AI I had to scrub off the map. Even after I defeated its last planet (ie I owned 100% everything), the diplomative picture still hadn't cracked. Go figure. There is another thread discussing ideas to improve

Two more things (yes I'm the first to reply to my own post - I'm used to talking to myself) I did reinstall (from Impluse) both Sins and Entrenchment. You can add that to the above list. Additionally I just located some more threads concerning similar strange behavior including: lagging, slow frame rate, freezing, minidumps, and other misc problems. Those threads established that it is the NVidia 7x serives graphics cards in combination with Vista as

My apologies for bringing yet another crash-related thread into existence. I did my research and scearched this forum top to bottom, electron by electron, byte by byte. But none of the solutions to similar problems helped me. Here is the problem: Entrenchment is crashing approx 1 hour into a game to everyone's favorite Blue Screen, followed by a restart of the computer. Vista than indicates that there was problem with my graphics driver and offers

Reply to Kostura Cannon in Strategy
Kostura does the following things: Damages every ship and structure in orbit of the planet hit, disables them for a set time and lastly, opens a temporary phase lane for a fleet to use at any phase gate .
That explains a lot. In a recent game I couldn't figure out how my ships were able to skip halfway across the galaxy to the targeted planet. This is what I've noticed: 2 or 3 shots from some Novaliths are usually enough to wipe out an

I've observed that I loose the least amount of ships when I have a moderate-to-large fleet consisting of a few (2-6) capital ships, 10+ heavy cruisers, 4+ other cruisers, and a smattering (20+) of frigates (LRMs, Lights, Anti-fighter). Additionally I tend to field a large number of strike craft, I've found that they provide a great boost to my fleet. A well designed fleet should be able to perform a variety of functions in a variety of situations, CapShips have abilties that cruisers and friga
