Are heavy cruisers really useful? I was playing as advent with a rolling economy so I decided to start building Destras. I had a bunch, like 100 in the mid game, but they ended up getting destroyed by a couple of enemy fleets. Then I changed my strat and started building Illuminators and now I own 3/4 of the galaxy. Was that a fluke or are Destras just not worth it?
Another useful trick which some people ignore or turn off is setting clarivoiance (sp?) on auto-use for one of the advent ships. That basically allows you to scout a new planet every 40 or so seconds, giving you a good look at the rest of the galaxy. I believe that the ability is only used by AI on unknown planets, so you don't have to get impatient with it and bother doing it yourself.
I'm pretty new to the game, so I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but how does supply and upkeep and whatnot for ships affect your credit income? Additionally, what are some other things that affect your income and how do you increase it?
