When you fire the cannon, alert your allies. Pin the planet and tell them "this place is dead, don't touch it", or something similar. Also try to keep cannons off of auto fire, because if you have 6 cannons set to auto-fire and you start getting enemies at your allie's place, you don't want 6 nukes heading that way. Have you tried adjusting the settings for your mouse in the Control Panel? You might have some pre-defined settings that make the mouse act strange when a game is detected.

There is no point in making a Halo mod since Halo Wars is coming out next year. You can just play this same styled game on the 360 or on the PC when HW comes out.
