I'm just wondering if it's worth my time to build more than what's needed to have all research options. I've always thought that it speeds up research time but I've never known for sure.

It looks like you'll need to just put it in img tags. So, make a moderately sized screen shot and then just put it in [img][/*img] but without the *.

Well, I just watched the frigate firing scene from Halo 3, and they don't actually show the rounds themselves. However, if the trail is any indication, they are yellow.
