1 v 1 maps really aren't all that challenging. Intiially I send out scouts, no more then three (do the crystal thing etc.). Then build the cap factory. For Tec I always use the Kol. I go with 2 military stations first in order to secure the Jav. proto for Tec. Take about two planets and a couple of asteroids. This should give you enough income to build a fleet of Javs, or what have you, with your cap ship as the flagship. This is a fairly easy way to win. Of course with this fleet you go
...Once I hit the pop cap for whatever level I'm at, I go back in and get pertinent upgrades, like tier one military upgrades and tier 1 econ upgrades. ...
I thought econ upgrades are best to get early, military upgrades late, since their effects are felt over time (for econ upgrades) or immediately (for military). Like, given that TEC's tier 1 terran world upgrade only raises my homeworld's population, wouldn't I want to get that sooner so the population has time to inc
This has nothing on what I've seen though. I have seen planets several times with both the dense core (+33% gravity well size) and the porous core (-33% gravity well size). Which makes them just be normal...with extra text I think they didn't ever put in any exclusions with those.
Speaking of, what kind of an impact does gravwell size have on gameplay?

My favorite matches are 1 vs. 1's on Random - Small for various reasons (matching wits with single opponent, can't use precanned/scripted strats on a memorized map, scouting means something, etc). However, I'd like some general strategeys or guidelines to follow that will improve my win/loss ratio. For example, I know I should always start by buying 200 crystal, upgrading infrastructure, building cap factory, yadda yadda, but I'm never clear

My games usually load too fast for me to read the tips that show while you wait. Has anyone compiled a list of them or better yet, are the images in some location of the game's install folder that I can browse?
First off, never quote a website where anyone can change the facts. Secondly, no one said Starcraft wasn't revolutionary or anything, it's just better to judge a game based on what it's got, not how similar it is to something else.
I agree with you on all points, however, I wasn't judging the game on any level; I was simply trying to explain it to someone using something he was already familiar with. Surely there is nothing wrong with that.

So if the general consensus is that LRM's are good enough to be spammed, and building Light Frigates are a waste, does that mean that Light Frigates have no role in the game? Also, what about TEC's Sabotage Reactor skill? Is that completely inferior to the LRM's Cluster Bombs?

Starcraft is the GOLD STANDARD of RTS's. I'm sorry if you don't like that, but it's [link="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft#Legacy"]WWW Link[/link] As for my friend, yes of course he's capable of understanding it in non-SC terms, and he's already played the game at my house and loved it (he's buying this weekend), but it would still have been nice to draw some parallels. However, as Retro has pointed out, it's practically impossible to make any meaningful comparisons due to the

I tried explaining this game to a friend of mine who loves Starcraft and I started with this: TEC are like the Terran Advent are like the Protoss Vasari are the Zerg However, due to the Vasari's ships, I'd say they're more like the Protoss. Can anyone help me explain this game with more SC anaolgies?

The game manual implies that while they can't support as much population as Terran planets, Desert planets are valuable because they make "good bulwarks against intruders". How are Desert planets easier to defend than other planets?
I believe building fighters/bombers requires antimatter for the carrier cruisers
I'll have to test that . . . Wouldn't the UI say the cost per squad?
Making jumps between planets require antimatter (I think around 100 each jump, although I have a theory that the amount required for each jump varies on the distance of the jump).
I seriously doubt that that it requires A-M. First of all, some ships like the LRM Frigate doesn't even [
I don't know a full list of chat commands but one I found is /wf for whispering friends. This also supports tab completion so for example, /wf Ka + [Tab] would give you /wf Karail.
This is great! Does anyone know any more?
common ones like Eric_Blair for emote, /join "channel name", etc. but none seem to work.Has Stardock published a list of these anywhere? Has anyone discovered any more?
Ok, that looks like a typo but it seems that the forum software interpreted the characters / m e (without the spaces) as me trying to emote. Basically replace the word "Eric_Blair" with / m e.

So I've managed to figure out that /w "Player Name" is how you whisper someone, but is there a complete list of commands that can be used in chat? I've tried some of the common ones like /me for emote, /join "channel name", etc. but none seem to work. Has Stardock published a list of these anywhere? Has anyone discovered any more?

Lets say you have 5 planets with only one phase lane connection each one to the next (like a string of pearls). Obviously, putting a Trade Port at the two planets on the ends will generate the most income. But what happens if you place a trade port in any of the planets in the middle? Will they generate income as well? Will the trade ship stop at one of the middle ones and reduce the credits earned because he had a shorter trip? What about putting multiple trade por
