one thing I noticed, especially in early-game battles with fewer ships, is that if you dont micromanage your fleet, ships will just cruise up to thoir target and stop while shooting at each other. In addition to being unfeasible from a physics standpoint (this is space, after all) as well as a questionable battle tactic, it's boring to watch! Does a mod already exist, or would be easy to make one, that sets some kind of minimum speed for all warships? Sorry if asking li

I'm sure its a moot point but Im always curious in strategy games what the general time scale is. Even though it's a "real time" game, it's obviously impractical to build an interplanetary empire and conquer vast star systems in however many hours it takes to play a game. I was going to ask this question myself I thought the Advent sound like nice people. Another thing I thought was funny about the intro was the part about "an entire planet, banished to the depths of space." I'm sure the guy meant they just cut off all contact and trade routes and whatnot, but I'm amused by the idea of the TEC literally hurling an entire planet into the void (possibly by crashing all of their ships into one side of it and firing full thrusters?)

For the record, I wasnt looking for a fail-proof early game strategy; I know there is no such thing. it just seemed that I spent much of the starting game sitting around, waiting for the resources to seep in so I could buy the next ship, tech, planetary upgrade, or whatever. I will definitely try out some of your suggestions and let you know how it works.
Well, Im pretty new to the game and I seem to be having one major problem: I always seem to be the slowest to get my empire off the ground. by the time I've got my third new colony, my scouts are already coming across enemy empires 4 or 5 planets big and running from large fleets (well, largfe as far as early game goes).
