Low ring rate around gaz giants: In our solar system, all gaz giants have rings (That mean an quite high percent of gaz giants have some). You can turn it up! Just edit the Planet files in game info. I set mine to 0.500000, much nicer, if not realistic.
Can you be more specific? Which exact file(s) did you do? And how did you edit them (Wordpad doesn't seem to open them properly)?

I originally liked TEC, but now I'm liking Advent, mainly because I like to build up to max cap ships and I like the free XP lvl10 tech. I play SP only right now, though, so that may change :).
I remember playing Homeworld once with ONLY salvage corvettes (what you use to seize ships). It was freaking hilarious by the time I got to the end of the game how many ships I had.
Have you closed virus scanners and other programs like that? Have you tried using a program like SmartClose to close programs/stop services prior to gaming? Have you defragmented your hard drive lately? Try all those. You can also try increasing your Virtual Memory settings. Check the hard drive - if there isn't a lot of space left, that could be causing a problem - delete old programs/games to clear it up. Are your drivers up to date? The
I'd love to see the ships maneuvering rather than just stopping and firing. This isn't the Revolutionary War in space, people!
You mean fleet size? Maybe a lot also has to do with the map and the # of players?
Really? I thought the stickers were put in boxes by the publisher, not the retailer... :-P But in all honesty, yeah, go for the retailer first. If that doesn't work, you gotta give it a shot by going after the publisher. They did, after all, assemble and ship a defective product.
I haven't had much luck with fleets. Ships seem to move around autonomously anyways, even if I set their tactics to local or hold position...
I loved Z-axis in Homeworld. It's how I evaded Khan :).
I've played w/locked teams, and have gotten the victory message before I wiped out the last AI. I even got it once when I decided to leave the game running for an hour and had dinner. Of course, I did have 5-6 Nova's auto-firing the whole time :).
Always do a full wipe when installing a new operating system. I agree w/Napalm - back up your most important files and then wipe away. Do a full format, not a quick format - full formats write 0's to all sectors of the hard drive, ensuring that it is fully wiped.
Options Menu -> Interface -> Turn off auto-place structures.
I bought mine from Target when it was on sale. Several months later, I finally got around to opening it up. After installing it and trying to update, I followed the directions and looked in the box for a sticker. Guess what. NONE! So I e-mailed tech support and they told me there's nothing that can be done. Zero. I got super lucky and was able to exchange it at Target for a new one with a sticker. I used to work retail, and I know that the exchange should have never happened.
