I can see where its annoying if you don't already have it, but it just seems to me like a silly reason to not buy a game.
I only used impulse because thats the only way you could update sins, which i was fine with.
So you did it for the basic game, but you won't do it for the massively improved stand-alone-expansion.

Easier does not equal lazy. It lets them focus on more important stuff. I said this several times.

Anything that makes the developers life easier is good for us because its less mundane work for them and more actually progressive work. This is good for the same reason the mass adaptation of the Unreal and Havoc engines are good; less repetitive work means more original work. They managed to improve the graphics quite a bit in Rebellion, as well as new phase space effects for each race. Maybe they wouldn't have had time to do that if they had to retool the networking manually.

Because its less work for Ironclad, which means either a)more helpful features or b)comes out sooner.

By using Steamworks for multiplayer and updates it reduces costs and programming load from Stardock and Ironclad. Integration with Steam insures that game updates will be easy to roll out and insure that everyone gets them in a timely manner. Steam multiplayer is fast and stable and means less time figuring out bugs in the network coding. It makes it easier to invite your friends into a match. It makes it easier to track usage data for future improvements. It gives them more time to focus on

Its a scale thing. Making the planets bigger would either require them to increase gravity well size and thus travel times, or keep gravity well size and reduce available volume for stuff. Its also a matter of being able to find the stuff around the planet at a glance. Basically realistic size in space would make everything important too small to notice and make everything take forever.

I don't think the Titans should be the end-all of the game. I love the fact that Entrenchment made the game become WWI in space, and I was under the impression the Titan would just be a mobile starbase with levels. If that's the case it should still be possible to take one out/lose one without the game being over, if its not than I hope it gets changed. My favorite part of the game is trying to figure out if I can afford to assault a planet and making sure I have backups. If bringing

Novaliths make up for the fact that (until the Rebal titan came out) a late-game TEC fleet (usually) got steamrolled by either other faction (in my experience). Starbases are the best counter. In a related note; I thought they could only fire in the same star system, but other day I was playing and the AI was constantly exchanging shots with the other system.
Except it is necessary, at least to me. If you lose your Titan and have to start back at level 1, you're never getting back in the game, and you'll just be steamrollered by the opponent's higher-level Titan you'll never be able to defeat. Game over man, game over.
The game shouldn't be one by the first big fight. If all the strategy of the game comes down to who wins the first titan

I've noticed the same thing. I suspect it has something to do with the AIs tendency to build capitals and titans rather than frigates and cruisers. Every game I've played so far has ended with a fleet of 5-10 AI capitals and their titan vs my titan, 2-4 capitals, and frigates/cruisers out the wazoo. If the AI isn't building frigates and cruisers and is just rushing the research for caps and titans it would make sense they have a crap early game. Hopefully this gets fixed.
Quoting KrdaxDrkrun, reply 5but it doesn't affect gameplay in any fashion. Well it does, it makes gameplay more aesthetically pleasing.
Gameplay is gameplay, it has nothing to do with the aesthetics; the gameplay would be the same if all the ships were different sized boxes with the name of the ship written on the side. While I agree it would look neat, krdax is right in

Thanks for the heads up man, I'm gonna switch to making my own mythos and whatnot. Little more work, but no one will get mad at me or whatnot. I'll definitely take you up on that offer too, I could use a long match with actual people for a change.

I was wondering if there is any way to pull existing models out of the reference files provided with ForgeTools for viewing in Maya or whatnot. Trying to get an idea of polygon counts that the engine can handle. Tried to use convertXSI but it didn't work. Thanks

Well shit. Thats odd, considering that the guys behind Star Trek, Star Wars, BSG, Stargate, etc seem to have no problem with it. Ah well, guess i'll have to do something else; only had one model done anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

Decided to try and adapt the Manticore and Haven fleets to the mechanics of the game rather than try to stick 100% true to the mythos. This way they'll be better balanced with the existing races, which should make them more fun to play.

Finished modeling the first ship; a Manticorian Super Dreadnaught (Pod). I'll start doing the texture work sometime this week, but in the mean time I've got a few renders on my deviantart page (my browser does not seem to like the "insert picture" button on the reply box). http://aspasticninja.deviantart.com/

Hey all. After reading most of the Honor Harrington books I've decided to start work on an Honorverse mod for SoaSE. Figured I'd throw up a thread to see if there's any interest, and to keep those who are interested updated on progress. For the moment I'm working alone, mostly to see if I can, so updates will depend on school and whatnot, but it's always motivating to know people are waiting on you. My plan is to make Manticore and Have

I just got into modding Sins and was following a tutorial for creating capital ships: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/370181 . I get to the point of editing the brushes file, but when I open it in Notepad++ its almost entirely "nul" icons. Opening the file in regular notepad puts three spaces between each character. I assume this is wrong, so how do I set it so I can actually read it? <p$1$2$
