Quoting Yarlen, reply 45That is not true, but I've heard that folks who had a pre-order are getting a Stardock coupon with their email confirmation. I didn't get any coupon with my e-mail confirmation I got about 3 hours ago. Is it for something really cool? $10 off next purchase maybe? I'd like to buy another Kol Battleship so I pit them against my Star Trek and Star Wars "collectibles" when I

Let's look at a real-world scenario. By default any created work is covered under copyright law (which says no distributions of any kind), but copyright law does allow for custom licenses to be issued. Let's pull a book off my shelf. The first one happens to be Dune: The Machine Crusade. A page in the beginning state that I may not make copies of it, store it or disseminate it. I may also not distribute it in any form other than the original binding. Therefore I retain the right to
Why would you do that? You can download the whole thing from Impulse after registering anyway. There's no point in wasting time with torrents.
How large is Sins? I pay R70/GB (close to $10) for data on my ADSL line. If Sins is large enough I will spend more than the purchase price to get a copy from Impulse. Especially if I have to do it multiple times. Cheaper to copy a DVD (maybe R2-R5). I am seriously considering burning backup images with Impulse anyway.<
You PAID legally for the single 'copy' of the music/content via the medium of a compact disk. You DID NOT also pay for further 'copies' via an alternate distribution method, legal or otherwise. It's like dropping your hamburger in the dirt....you're fucked...you don't get another one....unless you buy it again.
No. As stated later, I did indeed not purchase the product. I merely license it under an EULA. The EULA says as long as I pay my license fee, I am free to
You want the Music company...or game company to compensate you when you 'lost the contents of your HDD'? Why should they? THEY didn't 'lose the contents', you did. How is this any different from...'I did a clean-out and inadvertently chucked out my Music/game....that I owned/paid for...so I want the companies to replace them for me'? The solution is simple...in BOTH instances...you kick yourself in the arse for being an idiot...and go out and buy it/them again....[/quote

I always felt that if I paid for something, I get to use it (for personal purposes) how I want. Not distribute to others. I want to be able to listen to my music whenever I want, whether I have the CD or not. Recently I lost the contents of my HDD, including my Guild Wars soundtrack and the DRM encryption keys for it due to no fault of my own. Is that fair to me to now be deprived of the music I paid for? Similarly I scratch my DRM-disk of Civ4 or a music CD I purchased - can't I
1 - Unfair. Unless the plans were purchased explicitly stating it was for multiple uses, you are cheating the guy. If he had known upfront you would use it multiple times, he either wouldn't have sold you the plans or charged you more for them.2 - See above.3 - Fair use. You are not profitting from his work, nor are you depriving him of sales.4, 5, 6 - see above7 - Fair use, IF you own the CD. Ripping music you haven't purchased is something else.8 - Can go either way. As long as you're t

Here's an interesting problem I've always thought about. Purely from a moral/ethical standpoint, what is your opinions on the following scenarios? Not a legal standpoint, as this will vary from country to country. 1) I ask a architect to draw me plans for a house. I then proceed to build not one, but two houses on different properties from the same plans. 2) Same as 1 above, but I bought the plans mass-market, instead of having them made for me specifically 3) I fan
