It obviously can't be an emp, because the wave is visible. Sins doesn't specify what it is. Besides, even assuming it is an EMP, the argument that the ships would survive it as they're EMP shielded is flawed. You can use the Kostura on any planet, even other Vasari ones. So does that mean that only a select few Vasari ships (yours) decided to EMP harden themselves against a Kostura? Wouldn't the other Vasari do the same? Especially since they get the same exact weapon? I'd hyp

In Sins, strikecraft are golden. The more you have, the better. They slice apart enemy formations and ships. Essentially, carrier spam. Forty bomber squads, even just thirty is worth more on the battlefield that a couple of capital ships. They're well-nigh invulnerable to everything, and take forever to die. I think that a better use of strikecraft in Sins would not be as anti-fleet or planetary defense, but as raiders. Strikecraft, when used in Sins against heavily armed a

I think Proletari has a point. When the Kostura projectile hits a planet, it hammers out a GIGANTIC wave of plasma/debris/fire/something that washes completely around the gravwell. I'd always assumed that it was this ejecta that caused the disabling of the structures/ships. So when gigantic plumes of stellar debris hit everything in a gravwell except your own ships, that is confusing. Say you had a a fleet right next to your enemy's fleet. Your enemy's fleet will be disabled, but why not your

Meh. All my games I play are always large custom maps, with at least five stars and around 50 planets. I like the crusaders, because they're fast and mobile, and I can use them as fast response units. That's just me. Oh, and about my friend's fleet, that was a scouting fleet. Later that game (I was talking to my friend last night, and I mentioned that same game because of this post, and he reminded me of something else) I attacked one of his planets with only about 50 Crusader

Couple dozen meaning in the 50s and higher. I didn't count. I think it was around 60-70, but it might've been slightly lower. It was hugely laggy. I can't check on my recorded games, cause my graphics card asploded. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]

This is at the post two above me, at Irrational Fear. I took too long to write this. It was worth it. Granted. You tell the joke. You post it on this forum. Everyone reads it, and dies. When the police investigate the mass deaths, they find the joke still on the computers. They read it, and die. You tell the joke to your friends. They die. Soon enough, the joka has gotten all over the world, eradicating the human race down to a population of one. You. You are now left all alon

@ Azrak I've never had a problem. I had a fleet of 125 Destras go up against three Halcyons, five Drone hosts and a couple dozen illums. They got hammered, about 25% casualties to the loss of all but one halcyon and a handful of illums. This was on multiplayer too, against one of my friends who's proficient with this game. Some people carrier spam, some people scout spam. I prefer heavy frigate spam, with a side of bacon. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] </

Manshooter's got a point. The real damage nukes do is via shockwaves and superheated air. While granted, they are still dangeroud in space, they wouldn't pack nearly as much of a punch when simply striking a ship. For them to be truly effective, you'd need to use nukes in conjunction with something like a sabot round. Get the missile to burn and punch through into the ship before the nuke detonates, thus giving it that atmospheric advantage. @ Rezonator: I just used the Space shuttle
It depends though, on the weapons the starfleet is using. Autocannons and missiles, for example, might be better off being fired at a closer range to maintain velocity. After all, shooting a cannon from several-hundred kilometers in space may result in bullets floating harmlessly instead of striking the enemy vessel.
No friction in space, the greatest bane of sci-fi! ;) [quote who="Juggernaut10" reply="12" id="2274

Hells yes. My basic sector fleet consists of two Radiances and approx 50 destras. That is the answer to carrier spam or illum spam. When only one of those fleets can take out a novalith cannons or a kol in literally ten seconds, it is definitely beneficial to use destras. In fact, once they get up into the hundreds, they are near unstoppable. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e]

How difficult is it to modify the fleet capacity in Sins? I'm about to start a very very very long 28 star map with 250 planets, and I want to be able to have a sizable fleet to cover that much territory. I've only ever seen a 100x mod, which I don't want. I only want a double fleet cap, and nothing with the logistic or tac slots. Is that possible, or easy to create? Thanks! [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] Status: Problem solved!

There's no air in space. That's the only reason planes do bank in order to turn. In space, there's no reason to bank, and to do so would be worse than pointless. Ships in space would alter directions via altitude adjustment rockets, much like the Space Shuttle. Many TV shows and movies seem to be caught up in the idea that space is just like atmosphere, only dark and cold. Not true. The common perception of banking starships is incorrect, and Sins actually has it right when the strike

When you spend thirty minutes at your primary ship production planets finding the perfect spots for your cap ship factories and frigate factories in order to make what looks like an orbital shipyard, and then micromanaging a kol and two dunovs into the group to make it look like they're docked. All because it looks amazing and realistic. And then making a fighter squadron fly around it so I can film. [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] SSAF, whose username is 'all p
