Whoever the powers that be are, ICO is dropping everyone from games and generally lagging bad now. So, uh, fix it. Thanks, Multiplayer

Basically the sooner you figure out they're going for HC the better. If you see they have 4(+) military labs they are definately going HC... even 3 military labs is a fair warning. Advent: Repulse and mass illum. Bombers are OK if they got a marza, but if they get a Kol you'll need a lot of bombers. Vasari: try and sneak an orkulus since they'll be skimping on fleet to get HC. That or kill their Kol with assailants, then set loose bombers. TEC: pretty much forced
It's the Akkan lvl6 ability Armistice. By the way, if he had an Akkan with the range-increasing aura ability, an Argonev will have more range than an Ogrov, so the ogrovs will die too quick. Apart from that, your fleet sounds pathetically small to be assaulting a starbase... I would suggest at least 15 bomber squads for a non upgraded SB. LRMs are not good vs starbases, especially starbases that have been upgraded. One other thing you can try if you have armistice is getting s
JuleTron - you shouldn't have to keep paying 10 bucks periodically to keep playing online. Like I said, of all the 'new stuff', only starbases are viable in multiplayer. Human players don't use mines, and the static defense structures are still largely unused because they're not cost effective vs human fleets. Stop being a mindless fanboy.
Totally agree with OP here. I hope the next expansion is free and titled "Pleasant Multiplayer Experience". I have a hard time recommending this game to friends because the multiplayer scene is so small and buggy. The game balance isn't even the worst of it - there's ICO crashing, a terrible stat tracking system, the all too random random map generator, minidumps ruining long games, etc, it's all been listed before on these forums. I bought entrenchment so that I could p
I think you're giving too much love to the vasari. They're currently extremely strong mid-late game with their fully upgraded flak + bombers, which is the late game vasari fleet of choice these days (excluding if you have to fight repulse, in which case you're boned anyways). Vasari flak takes out LRFs and caps once you get critical mass (60+) and their phase missiles, and their bombers are similarly excellent at taking out starbases. I don't understand why you think the orkulus needs to take
@ Mr. Haze Your LF didn't survive because they were stronger, it's just that I hotkey my flak to run around illums, and shift-target caps then illum with the kodiaks. I target LF last since they're weakest so they escaped =p. If I've already switched to HC, there's no point in getting fighters to counter many LF/LRF, since a proportionally smaller ammount of resources spent in flak negates your fighters. Flak/kodiak/hoshiko is the best counter to an Advent who isn't using guardians (o
From a multiplayer perspective - very rarely if ever do TEC players use ogrovs in your average 'skilled' game to take out starbases because of the way people tech and play TEC. Carriers/hoshikos are 3 military labs where most TEC players stay in the midgame, and the next step in TEC is the switch to heavy cruiser at 5 labs, so there's no reason to be at 4 labs (unless for mass lrm upgrade, and mass lrm is pretty bad if scouted). The best strategy with starbases is simply to keep scout
Hey, Just reinstalled sins and am a bit confused with all the versions floating around. Which is the most populated version for multiplayer? Thanks!
The problem is that carriers are still faster. Even having 3 times as many light frigates, I can't catch up to the carriers because they can run around dealing constant damage while the light frigates have to stop and go attacking. If carriers moved slower, this wouldn't be a problem.
The problem is worse in early-mid game when people go straight drone host and then proceed to run around your light/long range frigates and there isn't really anything you can except try to get more carriers then the other person. Worse than 'lrm spam' because there isn't any cost effective counter to carriers... TLDR Need unit that can chase down and kill carriers that just run circles.
I use vista, an athlon 5000, and a geforce8500 and haven't noticed any difference with the beta. I never have mini-dumps when I've hosted either. Check your drivers?
I have had this problem once in non-beta; no minidump occurred, but some time passed before we realized that we were no longer playing the same game (although the chat was still working). However, it hasn't happened since so I couldn't tell you anything more about it. :-\ -RaptorJesus
I second that getting a horrible start spot is very often multiplayer doom, especially on smaller maps. I wish the random map generator created planet systems like a mirror/palindrome; if I wanted a 5 planet random, it would create something like: Terran(Player1)-Asteroid-Volcano-Asteroid-Terran(Player2) so although the types of planets, neutrals, etc. are random, both players have an equal shot. -RaptorJesus
