I don't think the game should be so dependent on having a titan to succeed. Having said that- I am all for once you lose it, it's back to level 1 with it. Keeping a high level ship should require people to have the necessary support and to baby it. You don't need a titan to defeat an enemy fleet or another titan. It does make it easier but it shouldn't be a crutch or a game breaker.
I personally wish the pirate bases were a little more of a challenge the later stages of the game. At the start of a game, someone can't go in and take over the pirate base- but it really doesn't take much from that point on to take it over. A few cap ships in a small fleet can easily take it out. There are the gun enplacements but they are easily handled once the defense fleet is taken out. I wouldn't mind seeing an option that wouldn
I started a couple of 3v3, 4v4 yesterday using AI cruel as partners. Prior to the patch, the AI teammates would spam 'Send Envoy' missions non-stop. With the patch yesterday though- the missions seem to be gone all together. A few of the games I would get an initial mission from on the AI at the start of the game well before I even had the envoy skill trained then after that there would be no missions at all.
