Explorer.exe Windows XP version 6.00.2900.5512 (xpsp.080413-2105) Explorer hangs far too often with certain WMV .Dreams, but other WMV dreams are 100% stable on my robust s939 PC. Desktop Earth has never crashed, neither has any of CarGuy1's .Dreams, but some (Watercolor) never initialize or they go one loop and hang. I have a whole compliment of applicable codecs installed from typical AV players, including nVidia's PureVideo codec, but I have no method

Impulse On-line activation is a half-step less annoying than Steam and a full step better than run-time devices, I can no longer tolerate Steam running for games I happen to purchase from Valve, on-line or off-line. It might be ok for you, gentle reader, but not for me. Once Impulse becomes intrusive that will go too, sadly..sigh..but as it stands right now on-line activation for install or patches is tolerable ...like Steam once was. Games start quicker with no
As a follow up, I ended up purchasing ObjectDock Plus and I really do like it. Once I found some aftermarket icons and became more comfortable with the customizations it really turned my desktop into something I've always wanted and never had. It's what XP should have been ages ago..anyway, late to the party is better than never going at all! Yet, the "Startmenu helper file failed to inject" does still exist in this version and I think I might have a clue as to when it appears, as it
It all used to work no issues. One thing I have noticed is that PhysX can not be enabled anymore in the control panel (8800 GTS 512) that's not right at all. I'm going to change drivers yet again to see what's up with that. Edit : Success...uninstalled all three apps then installed new 182.50 Forceware (4/2/09) then installed the three apps and Twilight runs now...(PhysX still not able to be enabled anymore) Educated gu
Hi! After a Windows/Impulse reinstall and updating/reinstalling GC2/DA and Twlilight, Twlight doesn't start anymore. It fails on the opening screen, presumably since it cant find the video card according to debug.err, which is c&p'sted. I ordered on 1-1, not even aware that the exp. was available on that day. I was under the impression it was a mid to late January release. But I did it anyway as I really wanted Starbases. I can't believe Starbases were left out and took THIS long to be introduced. A damn space game with space ships and planets and orbits and orbital defences but no starbases? Absurd, really. While I don't like the idea of paying for expansion packs, I do it anyway since in almost all cases the f
Right on top of things, well done. I'm going to dl and try 1.2.3 right now. btw, Life on Eurpoa spellbinds me and it is a very well behaved dream, never hitches, never slows down while having a lot of desktop staying power and it scales well. Are you familiar with the "3D Space Tour" screensaver series consisting of: Earth, Moon, Mars, Saturn, and Galaxy? They are fun and Galaxy might make an interesting .dream concept and be relatively easy to loop. It could share t
A simple way to make capital ships more effective is to increase their range and decrease the range of frigates and smaller ships. Increase range also to ships in tight aegis-style task force formation, giving further benefit to maintaining fleet cohesion. You can make this even more challenging by requiring a certain number and type of ships, to take advantage of task force bonuses. To reflect the constant availability of repair and critical systems, if you will. By
Thank for for Dream Manager for XP! (and all your art too) I purchased copy for your troubles. Have a [e digicons][/e] (or two) on me. Yes, creating several gigs worth of data, seemingly unnecessarily and in a peculiar location is bad form. I ran out of room on my (admittedly small, but for good reason) system partition enjoying and sampling many dreams, yours included. If it wasn't for SequoiaView (or the like) I'd have no idea what happened. <p
DeskScapes XP (2.5.067) wants to store all the .DREAM files in \MY DOCUMENTS in the Windows partition, this is bad enough for someone who does not consider a .DREAM file to be a document, but as I am trying to keep the Windows partition small I had to move /MY DOCUMENTS to another larger partition, which is a pain but is how I can hold 2G worth of .DREAM files! However, when applied to the desktop that .DREAM file is taken from \MY DOCUMENTS (even if on another partition) an
Hello all! I just successfully installed Deskscapes 2.5.067 for XP and I am thrilled to finally have an animated desktop...a feature full of utility and decoration that has been overlooked for too long. Combined with Object Dock and WindowBlinds I finally have a near perfect OS. XP now feels like Oblivion with the number of high quality mods I can apply to it with dramatic effect. PC Specs: 8800GTS/G92/512M Stock Dual Core AMD Opteron 185 @ 2.8Ghz 2x1G DDR
Stardock requring you to be registered to download a patch and requring a front end like Impulse to apply it is certainly more inconvenient than not having to register nor having to use a front end to download a patch, this is obvious. But the flip side of this is you don't need to [further] register to play, nor have the front end running, nor have a CD in the drive, nor look for a no-cd .exe. Perhaps you equate Impulse (and its required .NET framework...another complex issue
Strange, after reading reviews of Far Cry 2, this is the first I have heard about them enabling uploading ads to your game-space. Like other games with this same tech, I will not buy it. I game to avoid advertising. Thank you for the heads up, and anyone who supports in-game advertising is a fool and is to be challenged on that point.
Windows 7 is the lipsticked pig of OSes, just like Sarah Palin..there's nothing under the hood that we haven't already seen and seen much better. WinFS? Didn't think so. Instant On? Not a chance. Secure data...only if you are lucky. UAC that doesn't behave as if it was programmed by Lucifer himself and the same bizarre (and dangerous) mail client and other weak utilities and tools. But we did get a UI that seemingly tried to thwart your productivity and DRM that can quite
That's bad...and good. Bad that it's a bug, good that there is a workaround...bad that I have disabled the Windows hotkey for gaming purpoes good that it is easy to restore. Thanks for the info. Stardock guys, fix!
You were correct, it was bad beta behavior, version 1.09b[b].47 fixes this problem! Yay! What a pain that was.
That Balatar666 received such a polite and timely official response only further strengthens my appreciation of Stardock's support system and these forums. Stardock would blow my game business out of the water, because if someone like Balatar666 posted his attention-wh0ring all caps and ignorant attitude in my forums for any reason, I'd ban him and block him, sale lost or not. Balatar666 is a customer I would be eager to ditch. Stardock tries to help him...draw your
Who is the auto-play function available to? Can you post it here so we can use it? I would like to see the AI battle each other at the most difficult levels. It would be a useful learning tool.
I am of the opinion that gleaning the nuances of the economy of economic games is the very essence of the game. What you are asking is tantamount to "tell me everything significant I need to know." Familiarity will reveal hidden dependencies and subtle bonus conditions....and with a good memory and an eye for observation you will not only be able to describe the mechanics in detail yourself, but play in your way the most efficient was as possible. There are very few hidde
After playing for years and years I finally got tired of having to click on something to find out what the planet's current social project is. Here is a partial list of information you do not need to click anywhere to find out, already displayed on the main HUD: 1 - Sector, 2 - Date, 3 - Current Reasearch Project, 4 - Research Project Time Remaining, 5 - Empire Approval Rating, 6 - Agent Availability, 7- Empire Population, 8 - Empire Treasury, 9 - Empire Expense and
"StartMenu helper file was injected but failed to take effect. Can not show start menu at this time, please try again." This is an intermittent error (maybe every 5th or 6th time I try the Start Menu Icon in the Dock) and the Start Menu actually does appear and I can mouse over it, but it disappears in a second or so and then the error appears. Otherwise, when the error does not appear, the StartMenu works normally from the dock. This is the free version of Object dock
As a buyer of hundreds of PC games over long years and one with a keen eye for observation I think I completely understand both sides of the issue of consumer rights vs. corporate profits. 1) Gamers as consumers treat their product like any other consumer treats their product...once they buy it it is theirs to keep forever and ever. You have no say in what they do with what they bought. Why would you? Anyone who says otherwise is a greedy fool and everyone knows that, hence the b
I wrote about this before, but I do not see this issue being addressed...I want to clarify that having to redo my key bindings each and every game is really chapping my apple. Is there a workaround? I've never encountered such an obvious and annoying bug in a retail game, and I've played diakatana!
