Yeah, its odd... World of Warcraft shows me all the resolutions that XP shows in the Display Properties - Settings tab... but Sins only handpicks a few. Thanks for the tip on the Settings File. Works alright. The pre-game UI is cut off at the bottom but once I'm in game everything is fine. It looks like the pre-game UI is designed to 768 pixels tall and 720 is just a little shy. Anyway, thanks! snazzed **Note:&

Hey all, I have a 1280x720p TV that I use for my gaming computer... In all other games (and desktop settings) I have a huge selection of resolutions to choose from. I always use 1280x720 because it looks best with my screen. However, in Sins I have a fraction of the resoltuons and 1280x720 is not one of them. I'll update this later with a list of all my available resolutions ins Sins. I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 3870 and an older LG 37" LCD TV (model LC3

I haven't played online against random people, no. Friends, yes. Its not "fear" that stops me, its just that I've found most people don't play casually, and they seem to like eliminating parts of the game that I really enjoy. Example, in HomeWorld2, when playing online (the few times I tried) everyone wants to set starting resources to *Highest* and ResourceRate to *Highest*. Why? They don't want to deal with deciding how to spend their resources.

@Hack78: This is a fairly general strategy that can be seen in all kinds of Wargames (I first learned of it playing TableTop Warhammer). It will DEFINETLY work agains the AI and it will be effective against Human Opponants as well. Human Opponants, can adjust but it will force them to make some tough decisions. @Asai: Just a nitpick... I think you have your names backwards. Typical strategy convention, the Hammer is usually the fast moving strike fo

I'm of the complete opposite opinion. I think the sound bite are horrid. Whenever the the Advent Purge Frigate says, "Who must suffer!" I think to myself, "I do, from terrible dialogue!" The reason teh funny sound bites work in WarcraftII, and all of Blizzards games (that I can think of), is because tehy have a different feel to them. Sins has a very dark and grim feel to it. Very Industrial (realistic) looking ship models, dark textures and so forth.&nbs

@Teal: Yeah, if you could upload that mod, it would be appreciated! I'd love to give it a shot. How are the kids doing? The 2yr old is awesome. Generally well behaved and too smart for our own good. The newborn sleeps really wel... in the daytime. Why, oh WHY can't she sleep at night?!!?!?! @mja5000: Yeah, I've been thinking about the monitor thing... right now I have my machine hooked up to my 37" 720p TV and my Home The

Just re-read my post from yesterday... little FlameTastic. I apologise to everyone on the board who read it. I'm gonna blame it on Newborn Induced Sleep Deprivation. If anyone from Ironclad is reading, I've dreamed up a system where you can use variable sized ships and not have it impact ranges or mechanics. Feel free to contact me if you're interested. Like I think they will. Heh heh. Thanks and Sorry snazzed
why hasn't anyone just said... If you don't like the way your game plays... mod it! It is very easy to change weapon ranges and damage and the like. So why not do it and then just play your mod? ...
*RANT* Why not mod it myself? I'm in my 30s and a father of two... a newborn and a toddler. I have a Full Time, good, but stressful job at a Major Bank (which is even worse conside

@Bobucles Why would I want the entire flow of combat? I'm not suggesting changing the flow of combat. I should think that reducing everything in proportion would leave the game mechanics intact. As for the aesthetics, I should think thats a giant part of gaming today. After all, why do wa all have $200 video cards? But you're right about the HW2 NLIPS option... don't know why I didn't think of that. It would be a better solution,

I like the "idea" of commanding your fleet from a distance with all the icons and being able to zoom in to see the action up close but... Half the time the weapon ranges are so long that you can't see anything except the ship you're focusing on and a bunch of icons. Look! Theres a dot! wait its getting bigger, I think its a ship! Its at least 10pixels big now! Its definetly a ship, its shooting at me!" To make combat more fun to watch up close, I think

Its official. Culture will Overrun enemy planets. Once your Culture reaches their planet the Allegiance starts dropping. When it reaches 0, the Planet becomes Neutral. I geve them 30min beyond that to see if they would change to my side but they didn't. After 30min I just moved in a Mothership and took the nodes. Now that I know its possible, just for fun, I'm going to finish this game with just culture tactics. To speed it up a little I'm going to

The experiment continues... no flipping planets yet... I'll play another 2 hours and keep going until my culture has spread to every planet in the system. If nothing happens 2 hours after my culture covers 100% of the Star System, I'll call it quits. Side note: I've been in here and asked questions about the inner workings of culture and, previously, economy stuff. Is there anywhere that the inner workings and details of these systems are laid bare?&nbs

I'm running a Culture Expiriment... I've started a game wiht the Random Medium size map with 2 Medium opponants. I'm now in a position where I own 50% of the Star System and I have them outmatched militarily. I could crush them and finish the game at will however I'm going to see if planets will flip allegiance on culture. I've built up a number of Broadcast stations or Temples of Communion, whatever, and I'm running a raiding fleet around each AIs territory ta

Hey... played my first game with Advent last night. I already knew their strong point was culture and thats great but can anyone tell me what culture does? Every planet I took still involved fleet actions to capture it. I was expecting culture to reduce my bombardment time, or cause planets to convert to my side automatically... Never happened. Edit: only affect I've ever noticed, after bombarding a planet, you sometimes have to wait to capture it b

Every time there is a new Version of Windows there is a small crowd saying, "yay, I'm looking forward to THIS version! Its going to be everything the LAST version wasn't" Maybe I'm old and cynical, or maybe I've seen this statement every time there is a new windows... from 3 to 95, 98, 2000... and thats just the Desktop versions... I finally gave up at XP. Anyway I'm not going to argue with people on the internet. Suffice it to say, XP wasn't every

I love this company and its Gamers Bill of Rights! The above is an excellent example of why people pay them for stuff that is easy to use! Here's another one (and I'm putting this here because I don't feel like starting a thread on it) I bought the game and brought it home and tried to install it on my GamesMachine only to find, drumroll please... my DVD drive had died! Its Friday night I wanna play my new game and I can't install it and nowhere is open to go

*Please note in all examples I use Crystal, however this is interchangeable with Metal, and sometimes Credits. Ok, my play style in RTS games has always been "Econ Boomer" as they say... I like to put myself, and maneuver my enemies, into a position where they simply cannot afford to beat me. Mostly because I hate micro-managing abilities, I like to be able to wage a war of attrition that I cannot lose because I can afford to replace more ships than my opponent (I like the

Is anyone out there putting together an alternate sound pack for the game? I ~would~ but I'm a working Dad and hardly get time to play, never mind make mods... But if I DID have time, I would replace all the ship confirmations in this game! I tell you, if I were Emperor and Grand Warmaster of an Interstellar Empire and I ordered a Frigate to a new a new system and the Frigate Captain told me "Good one!" he would be peeling potatoes in the galley for the rest of his tour of
