How do pirates choose their targets? Well, they like rich planets of course :D Trade ships, lots of built up installations, etc are all attractive to pirates. If there is an asteroid between this "rich" planet and the pirates, and there is a big bounty on you, chances are high the pirates will just jump through your asteroid to get to your rich planet. Maybe the pirate targetting theory should be restated as "Nearest settlement to their base that is worth their effort (size of attacki
Only solution to carrier problem is to bring equal number or more carriers.
Ok Capt, so what do you think is a reasonable fighter/bomber ratio if you spam carriers to tackle: 1. Other carrier spam 2. Other mixed fleets And just curious, how does carrier spam strat stack up against the marza? seems like a good whack against a whole bunch of carriers to me..
But out of the 1 million that play the game (just throwing out numbers for arguments sake), what percentage paid for it?
I think specifically in SOASE's case, the number is pretty high. 1) There are torrents online for SOASE up to 1.05, but beyond that, none. 2) I don't think the pirates rate Sins "high enough" on their priority list to target it (much).. Just look at the scene war over GTA IV.. Now that's a real fun read.. So, on the whole, I think the majority of Sins

I just wanted to point out something about the pirate bidding that doesn't get mentioned much for newbies.. The length/strength/intensity of the pirate attack is directly porportional to the amount that was bidded. For example, if there are 1000 credits against you versus 250, the pirates will attack with a bigger force for longer. Now, consider if you enter a bidding war against the enemy, and the bounty sky rokects. And you lose the bidding war - oops... Conversely, note also, that was was
Or. . just use impulse to grab what is current. It's ALWAYS current.
Which is true. But I meant an FAQ specifically for those who do not have good Internet access and/or wish to reduce their download bandwidth.
There is no update (as such) to save, because when you update Impulse simply does a differential between your file versions and those on the server, and downloads the updated ones. You can, however, archive the entire install once you're up-to-date and copy that off to a DVD, etc.
Sigh, kryo, you guys are gonna have to put this in some very obvious FAQ somewhere. If you have upgraded Sins to the latest patch version and want to make sure that you do not re-download the

Aside from the idea that more staff means more people-management issues, from a software development perspective, it really starts to get complex. SVN starts requireing serious check-in rules/policies, test and debug complexity increases, chances of missing a development issue gets higher, code review becomes more critical, etc etc. Just look at the complexity of softare development at Microsoft or Linux Kernels and you can see that the proces
OFC, seeing a 200+m patch waiting on a very limited bandwidth is just pure agony.
Sundansyr, it was stated numerous times for this sort of case, you should archive your copy of Sins using Impulse for future re-installation. Refer to my own reply #135 above. The network connection that Impulse makes while restoring an archived game is merely to check/verify your account and serial number. <a id="ctl00__Content__RepeaterReplies_ctl23__Lin
However, with no dedicated server somone could build with no restrictions on materials because there is no authority of monitoring a players materials.
OK, I may be wrong, but I think that's also not possible in Sins case. Consider if we have a MP game, and my copy has been hacked to give me 10x more metal, crystal, etc.. I didn't go into the full list of desync situations in my write up, I just highlighted three cases. Believe me, there is much more to sync bugs than what I outlined. W/r to the network issues, I'd have to do another full dev diary to answer just the tip of the iceberg on that topic.
Ah damn.. I thought with Krunk, 1.12 is actually pretty close! Sorry, follow up to my post.. Let me give you an example scenario about what I'm talking about using your deterministic RNG.. Assume very simple 1 x 1 MP.. Init: P1 and P2 RNG seed=1 Time 0: P1 execute action 1.1, RNG seed now at 1 Time 1: P1 -> send sync action 1.1 to P2, waiting for ACK from P2 Time 2: P2 execute action 2.1, RNG seed now at 1 Time 3: P2 -> send sync action 2.1 to P1, waiting for ACK from P1 Time 4: P2 recieve action 1.1
You need the following conditions to get this sync bug to occur: 1. One player who already played a game of Sins. 2. His original game must have entered one of a few, very rare market states. 3. This player must play someone who he hasn't already played a game with. 4. He must not have restarted Sins. 5. Isn't that how most games do it? Sure this means that if the host drops, usually the game is hosed (except for a few games, like Age of Empires which could dynamically switch hosts) but I imagine it would save a lot of dev time trying to hunt down these sync bu

In fact, I specifically use Impulse to "Download and Archive" a copy of Sins when it has been patched/updated (eg 1.11), then this stuff is written to DVD so that one day, I can re-install it quickly and easily. I only need an Internet connection to verify my account with Stardock, restore archive, uninstall Impulse (optional) and bam, ready to play with the latest patches.
It's not like Rsync. If you were to try a byte and byte comparison between what you have on your PC versus what you have on your computer it would take hours to get an update. In fact, when Impulse v1.0 first came out, it was doing some (not a lot but some) byte by byte checking to do a sync lik eyou describe and it took 40 minutes on average to do the comparison ("preparing") which is one of the reasons why so many people here got
