thanks for you replies I just tried editing the raceconfig.xml to give all races a -100 penalty to research, but it doesn't quite work... it says "-100 research" in the race selection screen (except for the last played race, in my case the terrans) but in game, the research times are still the same.

After a year or two I'm back to galciv2 (with both expansions). Just completed my first game today on "slower speed". After searching the forums and googling for about an hour, I couldn't find a single mod that makes techs more expensive beyond the lowest vanilla setting - and I'm wondering, why hasn't anyone done this yet? On my quest to find said mod, I stumbled over quite a few posts by other players who, like me, prefer a game that takes weeks or even months to complete, w
Interesting. What about buying an entertainment network so we can set the tax slider a little higher?
Thanks for your input! To get things going I've picked our abilities and started the game. The abilities I chose are as follows: 4pts Economics 3pts Morale 1pt Creativity 1pt Luck 1pt Pop growth And the federalists. So this is our start: And this is our homeworld: [img]http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/6310/gc2taterranalliance1
I started the first community game: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/321137"]WWW Link[/link] Please contribute and have fun!
Ok, since I'm quite an impatient little *****, I started the game in the strategies subforum. Please go to this thread for future discussions about this game: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/321137"]WWW Link[/link] And please contribute!
Dear GC2 players, I present you the first community game where anyone who's interested can give strategic, gameplay-related, or any other kind of advice on a (ToA) game while it is played. I haven't found anything like this yet, so I'm claiming to be the first ;) For a short description on how this works, please read this thread: https://forums.galciv2.com/320886 Now let's get this thing started. This will be our galaxy setup: <img src="http://img376.
If noone has any objections to the proposed settings, I'd like to start the game soon. ;) Another question: should I open the game thread in the AAR or strategy subforums?
Superabilities or not is a good question, but since this is also for new players I'd say we leave them ON. If I'm new to a game I always want every option turned ON to get the most out of it. Regarding tech speed, I still think 'very fast' would be best for the first game. I'd like to finish the first game rather quickly to see how it works and what settings might have to be altered. I think even on very fast, the game will take a few weeks because of the rather long wait between turns. And we d
np I was playing all weekend anyway ;) thank yoo
no no I'm not talking about a succession game. and no metaverse. there will be no savegame sending around or anything like that, just me playing the game and posting screenshots and updates. that's why it won't be a metaverse game, I wouldn't want to get the points for a game that I didn't really play with my own abilities (or lack thereof).
Well first of all we welcome you.
thanks FireNight666, there seems to be a lot of nice people around here :CONGRAT: btw, you can call me just "ZD" :HOT:
just wanted to let you know that I've posted the game-in-progress idea on the AAR subforum: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/320886"]WWW Link[/link] feel free to post your opinion there on whether you like the idea or not ;)
Hello all galciv newbies and veterans! First, I've only gotten active on the forums and the metaverse a couple of days ago, but I've had GC 1 and GC 2 since the beginning. I consider myself an average (at best) player, partially because I'm of the too-lazy-to-think-much-and-just-wait-what-happens kind of people. Basically, I hit the turn button until something happens and then react to the situation, instead of planning ahead. But enough about me, here's what this is all about: I'v
thanks I already signed up ;) just had my third try on masochistic but failed. maybe I shouldn't play with random races, the Yor don't seem to like alliances X-( thanks for the hint regarding AARs. I did find some but they seemed rather outdated and didn't involve any discussions - after all, they're _after_ action reports, so not quite what I'm looking for. what I mean is a progressive game where every few rounds the current state of the game is posted and anyone who's inter
The Empire is here to help you have fun with GalCiv2 in whatever way you like Zerodexter.
thanks for the warm welcome! I already feel at home here :) just posted my first two metaverse games... very low points but at least I played them through and survived :NOTSURE: something I miss on these forums here is the kind of 'walkthrough' games like on the civfanatics.com forums (like the ALC games, with lots of screenshots and rather detailed and lengthy di
hi all! great to be in this empire, and it has cats! :CONGRAT: what do i do now? :d
no hurry :CONGRAT:
nice, thanks for the fast response :D I'd please like to join with my character "CitizenOfThePlanet" Now I just hope my game won't crash as much on a small map :NOTSURE: (really annoying if you have to restart the game every few turns)
cool! :) but i think i'll have to wait till monday for stardock to delete my character - i accidentally entered the serial of the original game when creating it, instead of the toa serial... does anyone know if that matters?
Is this for 'good' players only or can a 'noob' join as well? I've played the game since its release but never on metaverse and i hardly ever finish a game because i'm never really satisfied with whatever galaxy settings i choose, so i usually start a new game instead of loading up an older one. So i thought this might be the right thing for me as the settings in the MVL are predefined - plus with the teams and stuff, there's a real 'reason' to continue and finish a game. This probably all sound
hi there, i just purchased the two expansion packs (already have GC2) via the stardock store. the purchase was received and it said i'd have to wait for an email with the download link. i've waited about half an hour now but didn't get anything, not even a confirmation email - am i just too impatient or is something wrong? i would have expected at least an email confirming my order etc.? how long does it usually take from purchasing online til you can download the game? thanks and regar
