Or possibly add this customization to the "end" game "top" of the tree? In all but the smallest/shortest games you can get to the “end” of the tech selections before the end of the game - effectively taking out the tech tree from game play. . So what is currently lacking is tech for longer games . . . Allowing a faction to keep specializing after they hit the current top of tech would extend the usefulness of the tree for a time. Without needing “new” tech . . also you can have i

I WOULD like to argue . . “Its an idiom, and all the arguing in the world can't change that fact” but it can . . . This is not necessarily a good representation of a idiom since the meaning can be deduced from the combined meanings of its actual words (first definition of Idiom says is can not) . . you just have to know the subject in question . . “I'm no Hitler” , “I'm no country bumpkin ”, “I'm n

They can be used, as you say, "non-religiously" but that definition and connotation is religious and will taken as a religious statement. Also defining angel as "good" is not even that valid . . since one form is a "messenger" with no "good" or "bad" association - just a minor job. another form are effectively minor deities "considered good" by association with the chief benefactor God that does "good" things. To even very "bad" fallen angels and the like, still angels but gone bad. Also qu

in my experience, people that don't know much about computers are LESS likely to delete important files... unless they want to break the computer. Having Worked in a various MIS jobs . . . I find that to be not the case . . while there are some that are paranoid to touch/delete anything . . there are a greater % of people that "think" they know what they are doing and F the system up good thinking all the time they "know" what they are doing . . (so

It's not a matter of people not understanding it--it's that it's just *not fun* when you have to deal with the map changing its layout constantly. Even moreso without free movement in deep space, which has its own un-funness issues. yes and no, quite a few games have added various physics "features" in the past and the biggest problem is HOW it is implemented . . normally the “budget” has not been there to even attempt a implementation, let alone dev

Have not used a Linux or Unix OS before? Lots of "dot" files and directories(hidden) and a bunch in your own home dir . (read 100s). I see no one complaining there. Max OS’s hide all sorts of files. Also you don't run as root (in normal operations) in these OS's because of the massive damage you can do or what other programs could do with that level of access . . so as a user you are very limited on what you can "see" and manipulate . and only escalate when needed . In widows every

Ron Lugge . . I agree! (I never said to the other wise?!? - I did say we "Dissect" there OS's when they come out? I am not a advocate - I just can't stand falsehoods that are said so many times they become believed myths) They have made more errors then most of you will ever know . . . but then again they are not alone not by a long shot!. There is not a commercial OS out there that does not have massive flaws, inconsistencies, and bad programming. . . . how much of this comes to light, how

"My biggest issue with the new standard is that this stuff (in XP at least) is pointed to a hidden directory. That's just not cool, as most users won't be able to find the directory if they need to. If we can do some kind of redirect (with the user's consent/action) then we will." Yes, for XP (like I already said) that is a problem . . could a simple shortcut in your startmenu be a simple fix? that should not be too bad.

"The problem is that the more complex we make the game, the harder it will be to play in tournaments or online play. Complexity = longer games usually. " Not a good reason to gimp a game in my opinion. "As others have mentioned above, realistic orbits for planetary objects would be very hard to implement within a game. The complexity is one thing, but the constant drain on processing power and memory would not make it very

which is why i called it rather unlikely, im too lazy to go into scientific details that i would prolly get yelled at by erog about, the volcanic activity and whatnot would make it REALLY hard to make a planet like that. I am not a Planetologist, but a am touched you though of me <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Cool.gif" border=0 align="a

“Your writing is quite poor and so it is hard to tell what is what -- hence the test.” Nice personal dig, Well I am glad to pass your test . . . since I am typing this while testing a dynamic fault reporting and repair system . 2 screens 2 keyboards it is not a easy thing, and I am sorry I do not meet your typing requirements . . The arrogance just makes you insufferable. I will be sure to "fix" my bad attitude <img s

"Yes, all the little hidden traps and secrets are getting dug up" . . like the fact that MS is a attempt by aliens to control the populous . . or that the they have brain washed people into buying a OS that does not work and used there phasers on anyone that tried to stop them. The fact is NO new OS sells well. People (or companies) do not want to upgrade for a host of reasons . . If that was your point . . it was not expressed well . . or was lost in the thread. First . . That IS a problem for people those that are not very computer literate. Since this is the default with XP it will confuse people that only understand browsing with the UI and do not know how to change the explorer settings (most power users change this default just after install or set it up with the OEM “scripts”). <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Tongue.gif" border=0 align="abs

Um, I think people are missing the point. First if you are running out of room on your boot slice/partition. . it is your fault and you should fix it. It is quite easy to set up the OS to keep installed programs and user accounts on another file system, if this is a problem. Also if you have OS, problems . . well you have problems . . it has little to do with the game. Second the User directories (including my documents) are where user specific information goes as defined

What I suspect we need are allot of small buffs/debuffs, abilities/problems . . lots of them and while having a small effect they could add up, modify battles, change economies, etc . . IE you may find a good planet with a good buff/ability but the environment may also enhance or hinder this . . your faction may also change the usefulness, etc etc . . then your tech may be able to mitigate debuffs/problems to allow you to more fully utilize it . . or a random event may make it into a problem or

There are other races? wait . . Alien races? Wha? Please could we use a better word . . please . . just about anything would be better, the word "race" is so wrong on many levels in this context. Yes, that is another good model . The ships could compliment each other to the point that a good variety is much better then just one type, BUT it is also more expensive to achieve that diversity, Prototypes are expensive till industry can ramp up - nice. . . The only downside I see is that the combined fleet bonus needs to be high enough to (or greater) to off set mass construction . . both avenues should be viable . . but the harder avenue should also have greater utility to insure that peo
