With Project Aftermath, there's no need to even use Impulse. Get your registration key and enter it into the copy you download from their site. It's the full version and unlocks with a valid key.
I have never played Clear Sky, but one piece of advice I can definitely give for SoC. Install this uber-mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009/news/stalker-complete-2009-release It is so much better than vanilla, it's not even funny. The only problem is that playing Clear Sky afterwards might feel like a downgrade. :P

Hey I'd love for this to happen too, but it's completely unrealistic. NS1 was a mod for Halflife, a Valve game. NS2 is going to be sold on Steam.

GOG.com definitely seems too good to be true. It's not though; it's somehow as amazing as it claims to be. I wish Impulse would take more cues from them instead of Steam. There are some hints that this may be the case (Impulse Anywhere), but not much actual progress.
You're right about Steam - an account can only be logged in to one computer at a time, even with 2 different games.
