Don't let your cap ships get near battles with too many lrms, bombers, or heavies on the opposing side. Keep them in the grav well near a phase lane and far from the action if you really want the exp from the battle. Don't start with civ labs if you're close to an enemy in a team game. Some exceptions apply, but you'll have to just play more games to get a feel of when and when not to do it, depending on your race, your opponent's race, and the distance between you. <

For $10 I can get a large pizza, which 1) doesn't require patches to be usable, and 2) is something that I'll never regret spending money on. I vote 'Yes' to the OP proposal (obviously). I also understand why anyone who paid for Diplo would want to keep playing it. It's just Stardock that screwed online players with split servers and game-breaking bugs.</p

I think this should be a good reason for more people to play Entrenchment again :P. You've already spent your money on Diplo, so I doubt Stardock would care either way. I imagine this would be a problem even on 5-5 split start maps, since the distances between players vary so much that it could be much easier to double/triple rush one side of the map than another.
Rant
In my experience, games like those are the exception, not the norm. Can't really say anything to your story except that you happened to pick a bad game. The unrestricted resource feeding between players makes it so that you can be on the losing end of an unfair fight, no matter who you are (unless your name starts with "John" and ends with "James"). If it happens to you in a team game, DON'T QUIT until it's general consensus among y
Playing at the fastest settings alone prevents me from playing online. Why? It's boringly lame.
As opposed to what? Boringly lame and slow? I really wouldn't mind playing games w/o quick start, with pirates, or on one of the premade maps. However, I don't see a reason to not play on the fastest speeds -- the game is already far on the slow-paced end of RTS games. There's also a limit to map variation, since player-created maps can't be t

As a regular TEC player, I'd say that your military and defence tech tiers deserve some appreciation: Tier 2 PJIs (tier 5! for TEC) Tier 2 Starbase, and it doesn't even need a special cruiser to build.
...as far as cool factors, go, the Kortul has to win
Seconded, if only because of its voiceovers.

TEC, purely for flavor reasons. Between the Novalith and Safety Override, they have the two biggest explosions in the game. The old Cobalt voices were amazing (in the amusing way), on par with the over-the-top angry Vasari Kortul voice. They've since been dumbed down to more passive versions, for you schmucks who only recently started playing the game. edit: In fact, I still have copies of the old files, and currently have them replacing the newer files in the ga
I think it's a gg when the outcome hasn't been decided after 1 hour where the balance of power could still tip either way.
Sounds spot on for a 5v5; scale down the time accordingly for smaller games. Oh, and I suppose finishing the game w/o minidump or desync should be prerequisites too.

27 Replies 23,933 Views

I'm still of the opinion that the main reasons are of the technical, game-breaking variety: 1) Minidumps 2) Desyncs 3) Sub-optimal random map generation (no-asteroid starts, annoyingly overlapping grav wells, etc etc) 4) Desyncs 5) Hosting problems (what other online MP game regularly crashes when the host kicks a player?) 6) Desyncs 7) One game and two expansions on two different servers; no communication between the two. Why exac

There seems to be a new type of desync problem with online muliplayer lately. A new game would desync as soon as all players have finished loading, giving everyone the wonderful little red in-game text message. Repeatedly rehosting would result in desync every time, though the red message would indicate that the desync has occured between two different players every time (seemingly randomly). This has happened to at least three different game hosts; players have tried re

might as well call it the light frig vs carrier game. I can show the opposite quite readily if you're up for an lrm vs carriers game. carrier spam doesn't work, we know, but whether carriers are overpowered is a different story. Consider the roles that carriers can play well, then compare that to what each other frigate type can do and see if carriers don't come out ahead. p.s.: calling out a bunch of less experienced players is kind of a dick move.

A few things to know before you play: 1) Don't build flak (as of version 1.3) 2) Don't build siege unless you really really really really need to (i.e. no cap ship or trying to attack in two directions) 3) Always have repair bays handy 4) If you're losing a battle, retreat and conserve fleet. If you don't regroup, you'll just die faster.

From experience, Ogrovs seem pretty balanced, but the Advent starfish things are insane - it has about 3/4 the firepower of an Ogrov, but can hit everything in a large area simultaneously. Also, the antimodule damage modifier against anything other than a building is 0.01, so the Ogrov deals a whopping 0.6 dmg/sec against anything non-building. I had the pleasure of watching an epic one-on-one Ogrov versus Krosov battle - after a half hour of getting blasted by torpedos twice it
According to the OP's stats, there are 49 "missing" games, which means the guy he played "magically" gets disconnect when he loses (except for 1 loss) every time.
Unfortunately, Entrenchment beta players can get similar stats legitimately - I've only been playing compstomp games with 1-2 friends and my record is something along the lines of 20-6-0 (played-won-lost). It's surprisingly difficult to finish a game without running into a disconnect/desyn
