Well I will admit I went over and had a look at their site after seeing this. Now I am not terribly fond of FPS's, generally I perfer strategy games, but their new game does seem interesting. It wouldbe nice to play more games that rewarded tactical thinking rather than blind aggression. I have mentioned Breach to a few of my friends that love shooters so I guess the letter has had the intended result (love the picture by the way). regards, ct

Well most of the big names have already been mentioned but I have been going through my collection for inspiration, these will be a mix of the major subgenres (4X, TBS, TBT, RTS, RTT, and wargame) as I do not have the will to sort them out right now and I will ignore most of the Warcraft type games though there are many of those as well: My first recommendation in an older series of real time tactical games for PC called Myth </sp

Good old Bobby Kotick, one of the few people that can consistently bring out the hatred in the average gamer. After all how many people recieve the reverse "Chuck Norris Facts" meme.... Anyway, Bungie may technically be an independent but they definitely are not on my short list for high quality independent developers anymore. I never could get into Halo, beat the first three games but had no desire to ever touch them again, they just were not that interesting (highly subjec

Good to see people are starting to get copies. I recieved a standard copy in Manitoba on Friday (of course I had ordered the limited edition [e digicons];P[/e] ). Stardock has assured me that a limited edition copy is on its way so I guess I will just have to wait... I upgraded my pre order so I figure a seperate invoice was drawn up for each order the standard and the upgrade (just speculation mind you, but it seems fairly likely). Percisely, get a few gold mines and a palace, upgrade the cities they are linked to with the "multiplier" structures from the economic techs and you can easily wind up making 50+ gold a turn. If you are still having trouble try researching the resource adventuring techs while you still only have a few cities, you are guaranteed to reveal a few gold mines in your territory. Ideally you can link these to the same city, if that city already had 1 or 2 you have the possiblility of gaining
exactly. this is the problem. why should adventure techs reward you for staying at home? the purpose of these line of technologies is to help you choose good city locations, which you have to balance against developing a military or infrastructure. or at least should be.
Well in that case it is rewarding us for not expanding our infrastructure early, that does not mean the player is not exploring, merely that the player is

Or include lairs and give the player the choice between enlisting/domesticating the inhabitants of defeated lairs or to raze the lairs (I think the idea came up in beta). Then we can destroy the lairs for money (prestige or diplomatic capital maybe?) or we can recruit the monsters for extra power but perhaps a loss (money, population, reputation and so on). </

You need to be five tiles away from any other city, this goes for building as well so if you are only five tiles away on all sides (happened to me once) you can not build out from the center. You also have to be on a "clear tile", no forests or the like, sometimes it is not always as obvious as it sounds. Beyond that you just need a pioneer, select their ability and an outpost will form. regards, ct

I might be completely wrong here, but they seem to be resource spawning techs instead or global revealing techs. Even when I research them mid to late game I only ever seem to get one of each resource spawned (I do not know if it is the same for empires) (1 gold, then 1 bees and 1 fruit, then 1 gold, 1 of the better metal, and finally 1 crystals). If the techs simply reveal new resources you might have just had bad

@Nick-Danger What again?! I swear it happens every couple of weeks. I warned them not to switch over from the dog sled... speaking of which nick your avatar looking for a job.... @shafk Well that would put it at about 3 weeks from release which is completely reasonable for international packages...that is about as long as

But that could be limited through proper AI: If the AI properly garrisoned cities they would be more difficult to take. Another way to do it would be to improve the way treaties are negotiated. For example when setting the treaty: - a cap could be set on the number of units traveling through the neutral territory </p

Yes, it is frustrating getting boxed in and I hope something is done about it. I can see a few options: we could use a diplomatic option to negotiate free movement; or perhaps an item that allows the player to travel through neutral territory in small groups (the hat of the grey wizard, ring of the wanderer, etc); <

I agree the script would be nice, especially for mundane units that can easily become trapped. However the sovereign (or any caster with more than 5 essence) should not have been trapped. You should have access to the default teleport spell and enough essence to cast it. Select it from your spellbook and jump back to your territory if you ever get stuck again. regards, ct

Some good suggestions here, I agree with secondary spell effects, couldeven include spells designed to cancel the secondary effects. A battle of spell and counterspell would make the game feel more like a "war of magic". Quick example, "fireball" causes residual damage (burning), cast "mist" and the flames disappear (+ fire resistance) however it also reduces the resistance to lightning magic. Another example, earth magic reduc
