Since I don't want to jack gmc2's thread anymore but wanted to know, I thought Id make a new post. How does one go about overclocking, how safe is it, and can my system handle it (I keep displaying my computer ignorance, nothing for it I suppose). My system is as follows AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.1Ghz 8 gigs of RAM Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT 1gig Asus M3A78-CM motherboard Thanks

[e digicons][/e] Sorry bout that. Haha well I guess I'd want to upgrade eventually because I'm sure the 9600 GT will be very obsolete...I mean its become a notebook graphics card (albeit not the 1 gig version I have). I think it would fit in the case unless its much, much bigger but I dont actually know the size of it and SLI...well...maybe one day [e digicons][/e] . [e digicons]:pout:[/e] *begs gmc2 for forgiveness for jacking his thread*

Thats good to know, thanks. 'Nother question. Eventually im going to upgrade the video card (I hope) to a 285 gtx, but (as I've so aptly demonstrated) I have little computer knowledge or experience. My comp has an M3A78-CM Asus motherboard in it, can it handle that card or am I dreaming too big. Also, I'm sure I'd have to increase the power supply or something but have no idea what that entails. I know I just bought the silly thing but is it just better to wait a

Question for Sole: my "not that good of a deal" computer seems to have some heating/cooling issues, namely its temp readout for the system temp gets up as high as 45 degrees celsius (113 degrees farenheight) which is...well its really hot. Part of that has to do with the environment, I'm in a dorm room and its under my desk so it naturally has some airflow issues (I'm planning on changing where it sits) but needless to say its still too hot. It came stock with like four fans (a mo

All are great but if gaming is a priority go for Asus, they (from what I've seen anyway) seem to have better selections and more powerful computers for sale...glad to hear you arent looking at an Alienware [e digicons]:P[/e] . Edit: Forgot to add, I have a friend with an Asus laptop and he loves it in every way, customer service, reliability, etc. Just realized I forgot to answer the question [e digicons]-_-[/e] .

[e digicons]:P[/e] Meant to link it to this, which has a monitor and is what I actually bought, not whatever the other link was. Just a suggestion if you're looking for something to start with and maybe build on later but don't want to build one yourself to begin with. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11334819&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11334819&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US Just bought the same one recently, not only is it awesome for the price given but since its an iBuyPower its really (and easily) upgradeable. Just my recommendation [e digicons][/e]

No no, just saying that if you use the ability as a base for a new one, be careful when cutting and pasting as I've been trying to use it as a base and can't seem to get it to work. Not trying to put words in your mouth [e digicons][/e] .

[e digicons]k1[/e] *Throws karma at Shadow*. At Xyvik, yep you need to update Entrenchment, thats where at the very least the RotateToFacePlanet problem is coming from. I had the same problem. Id suggest reading Annatar's recent post about how to update mods to new versions of Sins (both vanilla and Entrenchment). Its very helpful and should make it pretty easy for you. Again, if you have more questions please post. [e digicons][/e]

*Feels shame for being misleading.*[e digicons][/e] . I thought that refinery ships/trade ships were spawned at those respective structures so I assumed it could be done. Sorry bout that.

Quoting ShadowMastiff2468: "Go into your mod folder..then jump back one step and go into your SETTINGS file and change the SHOWERRORS FALE into ShowErrors TRUE. then load game, itll freeze! Thats normal! Simply press the windows tab on your keyboard (to return to windows WITHOUT closing game) and then just click to immediately reopen game. It will only this time, youll have the errors plaguing you set before you!" I cant say it any better so there you go. Give that

[e digicons][/e] Go shadow, wouldve posted it myself but dammit all I accidentally deleted my Forge Tools GameInfo folder and the updated Entrenchment one is all Binary or whatever [e digicons]o_O[/e] . Anyway, the point to this post is to tell you to be careful with modding the Embargo ability, Ive been having a lot of trouble with it, must be overlooking something. Good luck and post again if you have more questions.

1. Yes, dunno how. Sorry. 2. Yes, look at the Embargo ability and related buffs. It affects only trade ships. 3. Probably in the GameInfo folder, if the ships have a file all their own (as in FrigatePhaseRefineryShip) then you can change how much experience you get from killing one, not sure if you can actually make it so that you gain resources for killing them. 4,5 agreeing with Shadow [e digicons][/e] Wish I could be a bit more of a h

Hmmmm, I may have not messed with the max target count, cant say for sure since I havent had the time to play with it today. Nope, not trying to make a completely new ability, just trying to nix the anti planet aspects of embargo and make it a blanket phase jump blocker. (I take it maybe the maxtargetcount should be -1)? Might have time to give it a try tomorrow, we shall see. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thats a really good point, and assuming it was slightly directed at my post, but all I was getting at was that calling for a nerf is both unneeded and unrealistic. The use of missile barrage is certainly situational.

Hey calienon. No luck, I'd already done those two things. I haven't been able to take a look at it again for some time but the problem I was running into was that when I would use the ability, no enemy ships infocards would say that they had phase jump disables, which trade ships do have (when using the regular embargo ability). Still stumped but as always I appreciate the help [e digicons][/e]

An Akkan at level one can stop a Marza. How? Ion Blast. The same goes for a couple other ships in the other fleets. One of the Advent cap ships has this same ability and so does one of the Vasari's. It doesn't need a nerf, I wish people would stop trying to nerf everything in sight. All you have to do is interrupt it. By the time a Marza gets to level 6 you ought to be able to counter it somehow. I've never seen the AI use it and no human player

You need to download WinRAR, which is a program that will unzip the files and make them into regular folders which you then drop into the mod folders for your games. Link: http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10007677.html

Thing is, its not a mod that required any entity file changes. Would it work to copy the new entity files from entrenchment into the gameinfo folder from my tweak mod? It was just something to boost cap ships a little and so didnt require any entity or string changes. Thanks.

So I'm sure you all know about the irritating qualities of an update...its kills existing mods. What I want to know is, how do you update a mod to make it work?

12 Replies 4,737 Views

As long as you play Advent aganst the AI theres an evil little trick you can pull. Just get a forward-ish planet (this is late game by necessity) and build 6-7 culture centers depending on how many the planet supports. Build them in a circle and drop a starbase in the middle, surround them with beam turrets (with synergy), 2 hangar defenses, 2 repair bays and youre golden. Nothing short of a full fleet can kill this thing and with culture upgrades it pumps out a good 39-42 c
