Finding good texture sheets is a real chore, so it's not really surprising it's not widespread. Once you get some good ones, though, ones that fit your overall graphics very well, it makes a huge difference. In my recordings for Salvation there is a lot of performance and fps loss. This is almost entirely due to the particles I was using at the time. Even though I am now using far higher poly models, ships with more guns, and Rebellion's shadows, the performance of my project actu

You have one texture, and the texture contains multiple frames on it. Check the default sins texture directory and look at autocannon.tga. So, this contains several small sheets in it. Various muzzle flashes to randomize between and some tracers for projectiles. The sheets I am using in Black Sun look something like this, but their individual frames are much larger. I seem to have run into some kind of limit in that sins can't use a 4kx4k texture properly (I wanted high-de
For particles. An animated texture is a texture sheet consisting of multiple frames, say, a muzzle flash or fireball. Sins uses several of these; I've come into possession of many more, and modified those further for more specific purposes. The animated textures tend to look significantly superior to non-animated textures in particles, and allow you to save a lot of particle overhead that would otherwise be the price of spamming particles for faking animation (e.g. a ship exploding).
Websites like this have existed forever. I found a lot of my old material on weird IGN sites and stuff years ago. As experience would prove, they all tend to be equally as ugly looking as the sites they steal from. You'd think that a site couldn't get any more abhorrent than moddb, but this one really seems to be trying. As for what you can do about it, I'd recommend finding someone skilled in rooting sites and infesting it with malware or shock images.
Have you run md5 checks from his source files and your "broken" downloads before?
Where are you downloading from? Maybe you're just prone to getting CRC errors from that location without the archiver being able to pick it up? Try using DTA (DownThemAll), a firefox plugin, or Jdownloader to grab the files if you are concerned about corruption. Else, I'd find a more reliable host. I haven't had direct downloads do that kind of thing for over a decade.
A few hopefuls dost the gutter seek, valiantly, vicariously, rearly endowed and sweatily so. An astounding urban sorcerer once spake to me, "KEEP IT RHYMIN' DAWG", a chromancer, a speaker of rods indeed. And so this hue to the hue hue, shall hue a hue. And vomit I did, and globules of rodly origins emerged from its harrowing depths. Hark, the bell tolls! A penis set loose this hour, most toothy and angry. WoW is like, anti-flashy. It's too low res and washed out to be flashy, and the particles are far too simple. A lot of the particles are too big and overpowering, which I think might be more the word you guys are looking for. Minimalistic effects can be flashy, and not overwhelming. However, this is something I have not seen done in sins to large extent yet (it's what I aim to do in Black Sun). Most sins effects are using the default textures which are, in short, horrific. Wors
You could always reverse engineer the exe and fix things that way (yes, mods do this in many other games). Given the incredible mess sins is in, though, you're likely looking at a multi-year project even if you're very experienced. Not worth the effort to anyone technically skilled in doing so.
I wouldn't consider the average moddb user human, so I try to avoid reaching into that particular toothy bucket.
I can only sigh at the people still using moddb, but I for one don't want any of my resources (current or future) hosted on a site external of where I have posted them. Thanks for understanding, and good luck.
I haven't seen anyone on this forum I would classify as a troll yet. My standards must be too high.
Well, I was mostly saying that to the benefit of people thinking you cut mines due to memory restrictions. Reducing/removing mines and reducing fighters netted me a lot of performance boosts in Salvation. The next major contributor to lag is definitely particles, due to the poor way sins handles culling. There isn't a quick and easy way I can describe how I ran through my enormous optimization project, though. Let's just say I consider both default and BailKnight
Ship that could basically be considered a cobalt in terms of significance. Old ITAS model that got updated. Not my best or favorite of works but reasonable update I guess. Oh yeah, they build way too many labs. I see them building them by the dozens in my deathmatch map. I wonder if there's a way you can just lock out labs for them after they hit a certain number.
Both the roletype and stat count type effect the way the AI builds ships but, like I said, I have no idea how it works with buildings.
Well, like I said, I haven't looked at buildings before. But it looks like they have similar structure to ships. planetModuleRoleType "WEAPONDEFENSE" This is what you'd want to be changing. However, I don't think you can give buildings multiple roletypes. You'd find something the AI builds often (e.g. research centers) and give the same roletype to the building you want them to build more often. Chances are, though, the game will crash if they la
Hardcoded. I have never checked, but if the buildings have roletypes you could possibly give the trade ports extra roletypes and the AI might build them more often. This is a tactic I employ with ships to diversify AI fleets.
The number of mines should have minimal effect on memory, it will be a CPU-centric hit due to the pathfinding and other related junk of having so many entities up.
Multiple hardpoints per gun + pointstaggerdelay or burst settings should do the trick unless I am misunderstanding the suggestion.
And now I'll give you one last one before I go dark again. This is a 10 hour job, a replacement for the shit missile cruiser.
They're probably trying to tag along with the google methodology of "keep changing it and making it worse as often as possible", likely because interns get paid by the line.
Yeah I was going to edit in something actually useful but then I was looking for the edit button and was like, "huh?" Getting no answers is often the part of modding really, really niche games. I know it too well.
You could have, you know, just used your existing thread already talking about music. Instead of just posting "bump" as if to insinuate this forum has enough activity to warrant a 2 day bump, you could have, you know, posted a reply containing your new question. This assumption would be incorrect, by the way. Everyone is too busy being either DAN THE MAN 69 or STEVE THE STEAMY 42 to do anything as preposterous as use 15 year old forum software. On top of that, you posted your new thre
