Maybe move a part of the health and damage increase to upgrades in the techtree? That way they could lose their exp and level and not become instantly useless.

Yea, I do the same. But some set orientation point would be nice.
It's a bit lazy indeed, but I can see the point. Disappointed that the Titans haven't been changed.
StarCraft, Mass Effect, etc. Godlike races have been done too often.
Is a space compass! This is something I've really missed from day one. Moving the camera around and zoom in to epic space battles is fun and all, but I often refrain from doing so as I completely lose my orientation and then spent 5 minutes putting the map back the way it was. Is there any chance something like this could be included?
More powerful aliens/ some godlike creature has been done too often already. Some disease or something maybe? Would be more original.
I think experience for Titans is a bad idea. Make their upgrades unlockable via a very expensive upgrade. Maybe at the very end of the Titan line an upgrade you can do x times that let you pick two buffs/skills.
In that case I'd go for lowering their survivability.
The way you want to nerf them depends on what niche they should fill exactly. Are they anti capital ships, anti frigate or anti titan? A combined fleet should always beat one type of unit spams.
I'm not sure why 'pros' require pre-made maps. If you're pro at all, you can adapt to the random maps. Radically symetric maps are boring, ugly, remove the need to scout and adapt to your environment. More importantly, they remove every suspension of disbelieve. Come to think of it, I'm actually happy there is no 'pro scene' as StarCraft has as SCII has been straightjacketed very much to suite this and is far from as innovative as it could be
Might also be your own Novaliths. Happened to me when I build 10 of them and left them on auto fire while my fleet was out conquering. The Novaliths fired before the planet was conquered, but I colonised it before the missile arrived.
Keeping the experience is silly indeed. A starbase like system and moving them up the tree sounds like a much better system than the current one. Titan should be a strategic choice to make, an addition to your fleets to break through heavily defended lines, not a necessity to have around already by midgame. Their power seems fine to me, as they are huge and bad-ass looking, but such power should not be cheap and losing one should be a heavily blow to your economy. Maybe
