So in order, what should I get? and should I even bother with deciples?

Yeah, he outproduced me. I just had a pretty good battle against another advent player and his fleet was a lot of illuminators... needless to say he won. Now as far as research goes, should I not waste money on weapon upgrades?
How do you deal with LRMs then, epecially having the mothership and all? Should I rush with deciples? Should I wait and tech illuminators and defense vessels or what? I heard defense vessels are a soft counter for LRMs, but if he targets only my mothership, you can't exactly get rid of the target. I know fighters are the best counter against LRMs, but how do I get them near him when he has a lot of flak?
I need some help dealing with TEC. I play advent all the time and my friend plays TEC and every time I just get slaughtered. He always has the ability to build double my fleet and his fleet always takes mine out with ease. He always has a lot of LRMs, Cobalts, and flak, so I really have no easy time countering each one. Any advice?
Sorry again, but I see shift ques up -one- more target, but is there another key that selects a target of all the same type instead of manually shift and selecting my next targets. Example: I want fighters to attack all of the LRMs in the well. Do I have to shift and select each one of the enemy ships, or can I press a different key and it targets all of the enemy ships of that type.
Thank you very much. This helps so much.
So with all of my units selected, I hold down shift and I manually click -each- ship I want destroyed next?
Is there a hotkey for having your units attack only a certain type of unit? For example, I want my fighter squadrons to attack only LRMs. Is there a button that I can press to make my fighters attack another LRM after it has destroyed the first one?
My main problem, AI who are allied with each other should not give you missions to attack the other ally. Example: AI1 and AI2 are allies. AI1 then gives you a mission to destroy 10 AI2 ships.
