Have you tried it and it doesn't work, or are you just giving me a hard time 'cause you think I'm a noob? Whenever I do this the starbase gains the ability to tilt towards its target.

The whole point of this was to make you figure it out for yourselves though... why would I want to totally give it away? God forbid you just try it; trust me, it works. You really limit yourself to a small defesive area when you do this however...

I'll admit that what you say is usually true, but you're forgetting about the maps I'm talking about; they're pretty big and ideally suited for defense. Gateway is... a little bit different and who says that you can't take out anyone early? By the time the main enemy fleet can even reach you you can destroy them with a fleet half their size, so long as you have a starbase. And maybe a couple of gaurdians. Just place your starbase over the defensive structures. Give the starbase whatever bombardment protection it has and thats the best you can do to get around the whole obvious flaw in the system; shitty solution but the only one that comes to mind...

You misunderstand me, when placed at a higher or lower altitude the starbase no-longer suffers from that deficiency; it gains the ability to face its target correctly. It takes a little bit of finesse though.

lol, I always find that Advent is actually the best way to go IF: you use a starbase with full upgrades for loyalty in conjunction with 2 or more trade ports using extractor focus; plus culture of course. This takes a lot of capital to do but I usually play maps like Systems of War or Gateway. Using this tactic I'll usually be next to last in planets but first in resources. There is a way to get around it from the starbase side; you CAN get around the z-axis issue with the TEC and Advent starbases, and this is w/ out having to change the coding in the GameInfo folder.
