Hm, now that I've gone E.S. Posthumus, I've began naming my ships after their songs. I've also developed a classification system for the TEC. ADN (Assault Dreadnought) UBCR (Utility Battlecruiser, the one that's not the Akkan) BCR (Battlecruiser) CVS (Space Carrier) ABB (Assault Battleship) So, from my latest game; Battlegroup Alpha BCR Ebla ABB Raptamei ADN Antissa CVS Nineve
Personally, I use Light Frigates the same way I use HW2's Hiigaran Flak Frigates- as meatshields and early-game siege units. They also make great pinning forces, and as distractions.
I prefer to name my ships for the occasion that they were built for. Say a Dreadnought will be named 'Vengeance' if it was built in retaliation for a planetburn. A capital ship that was built for helping hold the line or defending my territory could be named 'Aegis' or 'Sentinel'. One for sieges would be named after a siege weapon, like 'Tebuchet', 'Ballista' or 'Catapult', it also depends on the class of the vessel in question. One for 'Deep Strikes' or Blockade Running w
