Ok so I sat down last night to play that test game I spoke about above, to try and demonstrate how the Advent Loyalist AI can be really cheesy with its culture. I was playing the map "Triple Entente", and all 8 of the AI were set to vicious/aggressive. The teams were me and 2 other TEC Rebels vs. 3 AL on one side, and a different team of AL on the other side; I wanted to maximize my exposure to that faction in particular to give them the most opportunity to demonstrate what I was talking abou

Oh, forgot to say something the other day. I want to say that my absolute favorite thing about this mod, is that it seems like the AI is A LOT more intelligent about dealing with star bases. I cannot count how many times I've left a world undefended thinking that a fully loaded star base, plus tactical structures, would be enough to stop nearly any AI advance, due to how dumb the AI usually is, and then at some point the AI will phase jump in with, for example, like 15 Solanus Adjudicator
Sadly no, as I have one universal save game file that I just save over every time I play again, and I've already started a new game. But because you asked, I'll try to replicate things in a more stark fashion; perhaps I'll do something like a 5v5 with me on the side of 5 TEC Rebels and facing 5 Cruel/vicious Advent Loyalist AI's. I'll upload that when I get deep enough into the game. About the captured ships, I think that it is a big help to the faction, it's the only
I just wanted to chime in by saying that I ONLY play single player games, many times 10+ hour long matches, and I too am seeing a TON of minidumps; to the point where I don't bother submitting them because there're so many, and they happen at random times.
After playing around with this mod for a few months, there is one thing that keeps bothering me, and I wonder if I'm the only one. It's Advent Loyalist culture; it feels a tad too strong (I'm talking single player here). I'm the type that likes to go into 100+ planet maps and slug it out with unfair/cruel/vicious AI's for a handful of hours or more, and this mod is great for that (aside from the hideously OP Vasari Rebels, but that isn't this mods fault). But AL cultur
Are the planetary defenses up and running yet?
Oh yes they are. I took a fleet into an enemy grav well and started in on their tactical structures (there was no defense fleet anywhere near), went into the kitchen to get some coffee, and when I came back I had lost almost 100 fleet supply worth of frigates due to them. I was quite surprised, makes me wonder how Siege Frigates are supposed to be even remotely useful, gi
So I'm curious, because I think I just broke a record for the most amount of minidumps in the shortest amount of time. I just got off work and sat down to play some Sins, and was confronted with 6 minidumps in a row. Six. Five at the very first loading screen and one at the main menu. I then also had two runtime errors crash the game, and 10 minutes later a seventh minidump when I finally was able to load up my game. It was so ridiculous I couldn't even get mad. <p
I don't know if it is the fault of this mod, but ever since I installed it I will crash to desktop instantly with no error message (it isn't a minidump) about 8/10 times if I go to save in the middle of a battle. The second my cursor clicks on the save file name it instantly crashes, and even Steam becomes completely unresponsive and I have to close it and re-open it. Like I said, dunno if it is the mods fault, but I thought I'd say something.
Woot! Thank the gods I just beat The Witcher 2, because now I'll be doing nothing but play this.
Can't wait for the Rebellion version to be finished, have always loved this mod series.
Ever since Rebellion came out I have been having a ton of minidump issues, but since the last patch it has gotten better. However, I have now lost two 3+ hour long games due to them chain minidumping every time I try to load them to play. This is EXTREMELY frustrating, and aside from just submitting the crash report, is there anything I can do to remedy this as I almost don't even want to play anymore for fear of getting screwed out of progress.
Quoting Nightraid3r, reply 7If you really want to get better at this game, you should start playing TEC. They have really powerful capital ships, particularly the Dunov capital ship. Spam these like no tomorrow. As far as supporting frigates and cruisers go, only build Cielo command cruisers and siege frigates. Do not build colony frigates or colonize planets because it is a waste of resources that could be poured into
Thanks for the great replies guys. I'll try to make use of your advice.
1. Teching to the backbone of your fleet is essential. You often see TEC open up with two military labs and get a third shortly after. and they now have access to the backbone of their fleets for a long long time. As advent, you will have a slightly harder time because Illum cost 3 military labs. A popular opening is getting disciples and scouts (scouts do well against lrf) while you get that third military lab. Buying health and shield upgrades are
So this means Rebellion wont use 2 or more cores?
The devs stated recently that it will not. Making Sins utilize more cores would requires a total re-write of the games code, it just isn't possible in the scope of an expansion.
This isn't a modding question perse, but it has to do with a mod and I figure I'll ask here rather than make a new post. I only play SP with the Distant Stars mod enabled, it is extremely good and I won't play without it anymore. The only problem is that it seems like the AI never gives a damn about rasing their reputation with me, no matter how long the game goes on or what difficulty setting they're set to. I can get 20.00 relationship with them very easily, and all
So I did my first couple of MP games today. It went well enough, my experience with SP games meant I didn't get crushed; but I also wasn't much of a threat. In both games I actually had number 1 in military for the first 20 min or so, and I expanded decently, but the second I hit an enemy world and the first enemy fleet, my progress was stopped cold and I was forced into turtle mode. Can't risk attacking because I'll lose my fleet, or leave some of my worlds undefended. It jus
Hello all. Been playing Sins of a Solar Empire since roughly 2009 or so, but have never once done a single multiplayer game. I have a decent amount of RTS experience (Warcraft 2, Empire Earth, Command & Conquer Generals, every Total War game, Age of Empires 2) but the truth is I have never been a competetive person and so I didn't do much pvp on those games, merely beat their campaigns and got good enough to thrash the computer without effort on its hardest difficulty settings. Now ho
Advent Loyalist Titan: Aura of Transference- The Titan creates an aura around itself of intensely powerful psychic energy. For x seconds any of the players ships that die within the aura will have their souls forcibly transferred into the bodies of the crew of nearby enemy ships, bringing them under Advent control. Some crews can resist this transfer and are killed instead, destroying the ship.
Ok so I know all of the obvious ways to attmept this. Such as setting the AI to aggressive and in the case of your AI allies, selecting their fleet and asking them to attack. But these two ways have left me very frustrated. I just downloaded the Distant Stars mod and find it to be amazing (great work guys), I'm currently playing a 5v5 on the map called "into the breach", which is an excellent map. I love that it condenses all of the action to two or three grave wells, or
1.) Buff culture. It is far too slow to spread to other grav wells, and even when it gets there it takes a million years to decay an enemy worlds loyalty and can be stopped cold very easily. I also think they need to lessen how much a planets loyalty depends on its proximity to your home world. It's really obnoxious when you have a world fairly far away from the home world and have all of the culture oriented techs; on top of that you build like 2-3 propaganda centers and t
I haven't been this excited about a game in a long time. Even Dark Souls didn't rile me up this much! I've had SOASE since roughly 2009 and have put hundreds of hours into it, and this expansion looks like it is easily gonna be the best one.
Great responses. I too have had this game since like 2009, but have never taken the plunge and done some multiplayer. I came here to ask some questions before trying it out, and now I don't have to. Rebellion looks extremely exciting and I figure now is the best time to start learning.
