Yeah right now Advent LRFs plus Halcyon carriers is almost unbeatable. The Carriers mass bombers, which combined with mass broken Illuminators can take out an enemy capital ship in seconds. The enemy is then forced to go fighters (which counter both bombers AND Illuminators) but this doesn't work either because of MASS telekenetic push which just rips your fighters to shreds. The enemy can also bring in a few flak frigates to counter your mass fighters and boom, you lose.&nb

God I hope they fix Illums soon. They are so abused in multiplayer right now, massing about 10 of them can take out pretty much anything in seconds.
I HIGHLY disagree with OP. If you nerf scouts against LRFs, the only counter you have then are Fighters (they are the only other class that hurts light armor). HOWEVER, fighters are extremely easy to counter, with a host of capital ship abilities that rip them to shread (flak burst and telekinetic push come to mind) and just massing flak frigates. If you were to nerf scouts, all a player would have to do would be to mass LRFs AND Flak Frigates and they would win the ga
My problem with ANY race's LFs being weak is this: It can't be replaced. Light Frigates are the staple "anti-heavy" unit, countering FOUR types of ships (flaks, the 2 types of support cruisers, and carrier cruisers), and have NO substitute to do their job. For example, against "light" armor ships, you could bring mass scouts, but you could ALSO go fighters. Against "very-heavy" type ships, you could bring bombers, but LRFs also work as well. Against bombers
Well, he actually had 3 worlds, I just skipped two of them because under any normal circumstances, he could not have stopped my fleet from taking his home planet. Basically, the game was over, his fleet was dwarfed by mine, and he couldn't have stopped me from destroying his entire fleet then capturing his home. Except that I didn't know Starbases could self-destruct (because I don't play TEC and it had never happened to me before). As soon as I warped in, he self-destruct
Haha well I just got the "catch 22" of Starbases today against an opponent that I dominated all match. I was playing as Advent and I had an overwhelmingly large fleet (at least compared to his) but of course the price of having a huge fleet is the higher upkeep cost. Well I finally assaulted his home planet and he had a non-upgraded (or so I thought) 3000 hp Starbase sitting at the entrance. As I preceded to wreck it with my fleet of about 8 carrier cruisers, 40 scouts, 10 L
Runesia if you watch that replay I posted earlier in the thread you would understand what I mean. I've only been playing this game 9 days now but I win 75% of the 1v1s I play, and they are usually against good players because noobs don't like 1v1 games (obviously). What you do is just avoid all the planets and roam around the map taking asteroids as fast as possible. Your opponent will usually not expect you to rush him so quickly so he goes a little bit of eco first
The Starbase probably just got upgraded to the next structure / defense level. When that happens their HP starts going up very fast until they add the 3K or so HP that was purchased in the upgrade. This on top of healing probably accounted for the numbers you saw. Look at the replay, did the max HP on the starbase jump from 8K to 12K (for example) while you were fighting it?
Yes this did actually happen. I just did
Nah I've gotten it without any of that stuff you mentioned, and had players get it against me for strange reasons as well. I know that when someone puts a pirate bounty on your head and they kill your ships instead you get money, but it's like there's some other source as well. It's like killing enemy ships gives you money or something, or maybe even killing pirate ships. It's really strange and I'm not sure what causes it but sometimes you just get a lot of extra credits
In a recent 1v1 game I was playing against a pretty good guy. On one of his planets he had built a Star Base then about 4 repair platforms behind it. Now initially, I was crushing the Star Base but when it got about to half health (1500 or so), the 4 repair platforms kicked in and it started healing a million times faster than I could kill it. Whenever I moused over the description it always said: "Healing at 30 hp per second", but I get the feeling they were healing h
If someone spammed Carrier Caps against me in a 1v1 they would get crushed. Rushing Carrier Caps is a good strategy but it leaves you with an early game weakness since you probably won't have that many frigates, plus the research and cost of getting several cap ships quickly is very expensive. In a 2v2/3v3+ etc. situation it becomes a lot more viable because you have time build/expand etc., but I still think that strategy is easily countered by either fighters or flak, depending
I agree wholeheartedly with what the OP and everybody else here has said. The AI Siege Frigate madness is just that, madness. Nobody in their right mind would build that many siege frigates (in fact most people just don't build them at all they suck), and especially nobody would attempt to replace them after they got destroyed. I have been wondering for awhile now what makes the AI so easy to beat, even on unfair. Now I think I understand.
In my experience, the trick with Advent is to just avoid upgrading your economy and being an aggressive expansionist to get your income instead. Your resource upgrades (for metal and crystal) are hideous compared to the other races and you have to get 3 labs just to access both types! I try to avoid taking over Ice and Fire planets if at all possible for this very reason, so that I can avoid building those 2 labs. If I do build those 2 labs, I leave it at that - 2. The
I agree with OP, I would pay $50 for a good expansion. This game just came out about a year ago, don't leave it now! I think it still has a lot of potential for growth and could use some more love. I know Ironclad is probably excited about a Sins 2 or just going in a different direction after all the work you've done on this game but I think it could really be successful if you kept working on it. There are a lot of minor nuances that if taken care of, could make the
I agree with RA and others that the game balance is currently decent, obviously no game can ever be perfectly balanced but considering the immense amount of depth and complexity this game has to offer, it's a wonder that it's balanced as well as it is. I, as well as others complain a lot, but I think in the end it's really not all that bad and the game could certainly be worse. Vasari definitely have their strengths, they just have an extra hard time on small maps because of the
I completely disagree with what anteachtaire said about Advent's weakness. In my opinion they are the best (or at least good) early game because their LFs and Scouts are so cost effective and spammable, as well as your colonizer cap giving you cheap expansions. They certainly aren't "sitting ducks", I'm not even sure how you could make that statement about Advent's early game.
LF stands for "Light Frigate", their actual name in the game.
HCs may be faster than than carriers etc. with a slower acceleration, but they still have to stop to fire. This means that their acceleration is going to keep coming into play whenever you attack a fleeing target. Therefore, I could really care less about their "max speed" as they are never going to reach it during a chase and it wouldn't really matter if they did.
The main purpose of HC's is to shred the smaller frigates and take abuse better, but they are vulnerab
No I won the second game, when he went HCs, I just lost the first one when I went HCs. I play Advent btw, not sure if that's relevant.
I just wanted to discuss the role of Heavy Cruisers in a thread and get some experienced opinions on them. Now in theory the Heavy Cruiser is the ultimate Warship. They have heavy armor/shielding, they deal significant damage with their weapons, and to top it all off, they do full or extra damage to almost every ship type in the game. On paper, they just sound awesome. But in practice, I'm starting to wonder how effective they really are. The first thing to
I agree Hyrim, anything would help!
Yeah it's just upsetting because in the past few days I've been playing nothing but 1v1s and every player I have faced is Advent. Something is seriously wrong when the only race people want to play is Advent in close-ranged matches.
I absolutely love and am enthralled with this game, I think Stardock just did an overwhelmingly good job on all accounts, creating a game which is just more than I could ever have hoped for. Having said that there's 3 things I would change. 1. The company being a more visibly active part of the community, having forum discussions with us, and telling us where things are heading. I know this is a rarity but when I see companies and developers do this it is always such
Skirms: DPS: Yay Supply: Nay Resources: Nay Adjust Reintegration: Yay Also I think you should have a vote in there to buff reintegration, though activating it early would help, it still seems pretty weak to me in most situations.
Based on my very limited experience with this game, I can give you the lowdown on what I've learned about Vasari. Originally, they were my favorite race, so I understand the appeal of wanting to play them. Having said that, I switched to Advent because I felt like Advent is better than they are in almost every way, at least early game. Please keep in mind that all these comments are made concerning multiplayer and competitive play, not against the AI which obviously it doe
