How do you unlock Oculus and Deamon Assasin for single player?

Using favor points in SP in Demigod Demigod Forums

I just started playing and I love this game so far but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to spend my favor points on "persistent items" as the manual says. Keep in mind I only play single player so if that makes a differance it's beyond me, I tried the multi and found no additional options there.
