And yes, turning off the pirates is a perfectly fine way to play the game. I even had them off in Entrenchment most of the time just because I didn't like to bother with them. The only reason I'd keep them is if you are playing for a diplomactic victory, but if you are still wanting practice with military victories deffidently keep them off.
How does the diplomatic victory work with the pirates in a 1v1 AI
Turning off pirates is perfectly normal; most multiplayer gamers play without them. Pirates were ridiculously weak prior to the Diplomacy expansion pack, so weak in fact that most players considered them little more than free experience for their capital ships. Unfortunately, pirates overshot the middle ground when they were buffed and landed themselves in the territory of ridiculously powerful. I do not blame you at all for w

I'm somewhat new to SoaSE and have been playing single player 1v1 vs the AI on hard. What seems to ruin all my games are pirates. Just when I think I have the upperhand and the game is going my way I start getting bombarded with HUGE pirate fleets. There seems to be only luck in determining if I can hold the fleet off, as the comp will out bid me every single time and the only way I can get the pirates on him is if I up my bid at the last second before the auction closes.</p

I've been getting raped playing the AI 1v1 on small maps at 1 or 2 difficulties above normal. I've been playing TEC. I just can't seem to counter his fleet. I have not been using starbases at all, it that my error?
If its a small map, expand fast and do your best to intercept the enemy as early as possible its imperative that you atleast cripple him early on. That way you can get your actual Offensive Fleet on a standing leg and hold your own. If its a medium to large map, its usually best to turtle out. Absorb a good amount of planets into your canopy and then build up defenses on your frontline worlds. Once you have a good defensive net to at

Guys I tried to login to play a multiplay game and once I clicked on irconclad online the only option I had was to add a player. There seemed to be no lobby or anything to find games. Is there a simple way to figure this out? thanks,

Well I guess I will try that. It's just hard to see them honestly. Also, I cannot figure out the pirate ship classes. I've been trying to win a game on unfair with 3 AIs and the pirates are stomping me. A huge fleet rolls into my system and I cannot figure out what ship types they are using. I've been playing TEC fyi.

Hey guys, I recently picked up the two new expansions after playing sins when it first came out and I had some questions. When playing games vs the computer AI I have the hardest time trying to figure out what their ship classes are when I'm in an engamenet. I can't decide most of the time if I will win or lose the fight, and more importantly what my fleet needs in order to counter the fleet I'm engaged in. Is there maybe a mod or so
