As I alluded to in my previous post, I love the StarCraft universe, so I am not just going to abandon it, because StarCraft II doesn't have the annoying kind of always online (you need to be online only to get achievements, not to play the game) and the gameplay looks like an improvement over SC and BW. I haven't even actually beat SC or BW yet, though I only got them a few years ago. I am not even sure I like all aspects of the gameplay (having to build a lot of production facilities
Again, not true. They are "entitled" to get exactly what they paid for, not what they think they paid for.
Exactly, I bought Supreme Commander Gold through Impulse simply because it wasn't a Steam version. Then, about a year ago it was changed to a Steam version, and now I no longer have access to what I paid for.
I am a young guy at 23, but I don't need to be always plugged in. Gaming for me has always been about the singleplayer experience, with multiplayer always being secondary. Multiplayer for me has always been what we now call split-screen, when consoles only had two controllers at most, and playing with or against my brother was fun when he wasn't dominating. Connecting consoles to the internet is so alien to me that I still haven't done it yet.
I am actually interested in getting WoL and HotS, now more than ever. Yes, you read that correctly, anti-always online me is actually interested in StarCraft II, because it appears to actually be an improvement over SC and BW. If I had a computer capable of handling it, I probably would have gotten it by now. The tie-in stories are excellent, especially Broken Wide, Stealing Thunder, Cold Symmetry, Mothership, and Colossus.
I still use XP on a daily basis, and I only got to use 7 when DeVry upgraded to it last summer. I am about to start my last semester of my Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. I haven't used 8 yet, but I believe I will probably end up agreeing with Frogboy. because as a programmer, I have to have a desktop environment, not a half-baked hybrid environment, otherwise I get cranky. I still plan on having a XP machine for old games that just won't work on 7, but I definite
Homeworld and Supreme Commander deserve good homes. So would I, Major Stress, so would I.
EA has so far screwed up CnC in the aftermath of Generals/Zero Hour, and I am not expecting the latest one to change that. Homeworld was never really able to follow up on the original. StarCraft is all about speed, though I do like the game and universe, its just too fast-paced for my taste. SupCom was never properly followed up on, though Planetary Annihilation seems like it might change that. Planetary Annihilation really does seem to be the only bright spot for RTS on the horizon.
I have gotten used to the ribbon, but it sure took awhile after DeVry switched to 7 and I got to consistently use it. I still don't know what to think of 8, and I am sure not in hurry to use it. If I ever get a new computer, I would get 7 since its close enough to XP, hell, I still use XP on a daily basis.
Innovative RTS' are rare, especially lately. Homeworld & Supreme Commander are the only truly innovative Rts I can think of and Planetary annihilation is the only one currently under development. I think the problem he was trying to point out was that RTS' lacked ambition, as all the big ones are just basically redone older games. Stagnation than Death.
Indeed, the developers d
So who was to blame for all versions of SupCom Gold being changed to Steam versions, THQ?
Couldn't have said it better myself, Draginol.
As an aspiring programmer and video game designer, apps like this are the only thing that could get me to try to use Windows 8 instead of XP or 7, and I have hardly even use 7.
This looks interesting.
I didn't even realize I didn't have Java.
The first PC game I ever played was Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, specifically the demo at a Gateway store and later the full game when my family finally got our Gateway computer, but the oldest PC games I have played are the likes of CnC: Tiberium Dawn, Age of Empires, and Homeworld since then.
I hate Outlook ever since my Hotmail account through college was switched to it and desperately want Hotmail back.
I have SotS, but I haven't played it much, 4X games aren't exactly my thing, though I do intend to try it again at some point.
I don't read eBooks, I am a physical books person all the way. I utterly despise having to use online textbooks at college. I am behind on getting all of the Star Wars books I love. I finally got the Thrawn Trilogy and the Dark Empire Trilogy I ordered last week today. Sadly, I haven't been to the library in a long time.
Indeed, a non-Steam option is definitely welcome. I was perfectly happy with the way Sins worked before, but I hardly even want Rebellion now that Steam is involved. I don't want or need all of the Steam features, because virtually all of them can be done without needing third party software. THQ already forced me into using Steam for Supreme Commander Gold, if I ever want to reinstall it, without my knowledge, after I bought a non-Steam version.
Why can't Gauss Rail Gun have both the speed and regeneration debuffs?
Good to see that others love Homeworld too. I mentioned it on the first page, and was very pleased when it was mentioned on other pages.
1. Homeworld 2. Sins of a Solar Empire, Entrenchment, and Diplomacy 3. Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader 4. Age of Empires II: Age of Kings and The Conquerors 5. Age of Empires and Rise of Rome Honorable mentions: 0 A.D., StarCraft and Brood War, Diablo II and Lord of Destruction, Command & Conquer: Generals and Zero Hour, Stronghold 2, and Star Wars: Republic Commando
Interesting.
404 error pages on Blizzard Entertainment sites are pretty funny.
I still don't understand why they ended up not doing on the fly, because it doesn't seem very complicated to me. It doesn't seem like its a successor to Diplomacy at the moment, but since Steam got involved and the fact I really need a new computer, I haven't even tried it.
