They don't worry about the vacuum because of the magnetic containment field that keeps the air in... although, I don't know how you could blow up a planet with a beam of light. You'd think at most it would just poke a hole through it.

It is instantaneous... to the people on the ships. When you travel at the speed of light, technically you reach the end of time (because of infinite time dilation), so you start going the speed of light, and BAM! Within no time at all (literally), you've reached the end of time, and you cease to exist! HOORAY FOR LIGHT-SPEED TRAVEL!

It's happened to me twice. It's never really mattered to me, since I just whacked the civs that got it pretty quickly. I never actually got to see it make them "more powerful"...
I reverted back to Imperial from Republic. The senate became fully-war party, but there were elections which kinda made that pointless. I've had my government set back by the UP resolution before, and that worked, but when I set it back to Imperial on my own, it didn't work right...

Technically, it's not instantaneous, but when you consider the fact that Proxima Centauri (the closest star to earth) is 4.2 light years away, and that it can take you from a month to 5 months to reach the nearest star (not just yellow), that's still faster than the speed of light. Because of the theory of relativity, the crew would think they arrived before they left, when in actuality, it's at least a month later.

Like moodgiesanta said, there's no point to having an empire if you're not the all-powerful ruler, and all that.
So I was playing a game as the War Party on a small map for fun, and I was at war with the Altarians. It was getting hard to hold public opinion, so the next election, I lowered taxes alot so I could get a vast majority in the senate and revert back to the Imperial government. So I did. Then 24 months later, bam. I lost the elections, and lost alot of stats. Excuse me if I'm wrong, but don't autocratic governments usually not have "elections"? I'm assuming this is a bug, but f

Whenever I try to run the windowed version, it pops up the window for about half a second, then closes... I'm running at 1280*1024 on an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro... Any ideas?
