This post seems kind of dead, but here I go anyway. My guess is that it's some kind of evil(er) ancient empire that has extremely advanced technology and/or some sort of supernatural element e.g. Necrons (best example I can come up with off the top of my head). Either that or a straight up eldritch abomination (including things like the flood or the Beast from Homeworld, cause that shit is fucked up). Or multiple eldritch abominations. I think it would take something like either of these
