Well, with the capital ships on full defensive abilities (health, shield regen, whatever), i could hold them off for long enough to get my two starbases out, upgrade their health, then their fighters, then their lasers. It worked quite well, I have to say.
Okay, I finally did it.. It took an awful lot of sacrifices, most of their capital ships were rank 9 or higher. Plomping two star bases in enemy territory while the capitals got destroyed and then rebuilding the capitals worked quite well. Expensive, but it worked. Taking out the Titan took the best part of like half an hour and lots and lots of capitals being sacrificed. It didnt help that it was also covered by a nearby starbase...  
I'm playing as TEC Loyalists, playing against the Psi Order Zealots. I've got, really, two paths to their bases, but if I move my fleet at all they jump in on (admittedly what is a useless gravity well) me.
So I've only recently got into this series, and as such, I'm very bad at it still. In one skirmish at the moment, I've got a vastly dominant position ~ 80% of the solar system, and I just need to destroy this enemy navy so I can wipe them out.
