Recently downloaded and played this mod a bit. Trying to find something to keep the interest of a friend of mine (he's a Star Trek buff whereas I'm more Star Wars) long enough for us to have a meaningful game without him falling asleep during....
Another option in games like Age of Empires would be an "upgrade tier". That is to say, for a price tag, you can "upgrade" your unit after researching an unlock to upgrade the early game units into something more powerful.
They (kind of) did that with this game, too. Heavy Cruisers are, for all intents and purposes, a heavier version of Light Frigates. So there's a research unlock for each faction's LF that

Sel wants Unity Mass to do chaining damage. Goa gave it to him in a mod, but he wants it official. It's like his lifelong dream... or something.

Volt, you're on to something, there. New ship class for in Sins... Hydra :P

UnleashedElf, tiers wouldn't solve it, either. Actually, it might make it worse. There were definitely units in SupCom that you didn't use anymore once you're economy was strong enough to support a higher tier.

Well, after writing that I was agreeing with Sinkiller on one thing, I gotta say I disagree with him, too. Another faction is fine, IMO. It's the adding of new units to the existing ones I'm not for. Again, small numbers (2-4) ships is fine, but not more. Axxo4, it's not that I think there's a hard learning curve, it's that I think you can't introduce too many more units to the existing factions before you begin to overlap and make

I like and agree with most of the suggestions in this thread. Couple that stick out to me that I don't so much agree with: Turn based - While I like turn based, I like real time, too, and this game started as real time. Thus, to me, it should stay that way, otherwise it essentially becomes another game. As is, actually, I happen to remember reading a thread somewhere about SD acquiring the license to a really old space exploration/colonization/etc that was
Also, I wish cruisers and frigates were actually separate entity classes and not all considered frigates in the code.
Honestly, I think (to the devs) cruisers are frigates, it just they decided to give them a different "visible" label considering they were under a different build tab. But I do agree with you. If one is going to give something a different label to the player, then they should use the same categoriza

One thing to note, too, is the setting that allows you to choose that AI player's "behavior"... the one that has choices of Aggressor, Researcher, etc... setting that to something other than random (ie, the one that will work best for them) might help. In the Mod section there's a thread on the AI and the guy doing that came up with which ones of those appear to work best for each faction.
For the record, in Rebalanced Races, I put AA guns on battleships and increased the ranges on anti-SC weapons, making it harder for bomber-heavy fleets to maintain firepower for longer fights. Such an approach might also work here without touching HCs at all. Alternatively, new abilities could always spice them up.
That's certainly one thing that has always bothered me about this game is that the only "cou

It depends some, too, on how much time it'd take to produce those resources just by holding it and how contested (ie, risk of losing it over and over) it is.

Some of them [Titans] also make bringing frigates to the battle almost pointless, or worse, counter-productive....
Supreme Commander 2 comes to mind off the top of my head, but there have been others. SupCom 2 probably played a big role in THQ's bankruptcy.
While I agree SupCom 2 was a miserable game, I just need to point out that THQ actually refused to publish another installment of the game and as such GPG had to turn to Square Enix for publishing, going so far as to sell the IP for the game to them. It was SE that ended

That's a game I should look back into one of these days soon and see how it's progressed. Been a few months since the last time I logged into it, but everything was turning out great so far, IMO. Even has the 3D element to it. What was great, too, was the devs were even listening to their community and implementing changes that were being suggested. :)

Ok, thanks Volt. It's possible that I accidentally hit on an old thread and saw that and didn't realize it as I can't find it now. EDIT: Found it... yup, old thread (1 year almost to the day). *sigh* Gotta pay better attention to that....

Take a look at Goa's E4X and Star Wars mods. He has some researches that are "completed" from start. I know part of it is setting the research levels to 0, but I think it also requires that whatever affect the research has allows you to set a "base value" for that affect. And sorry, got a little confused reading your post regarding phase missiles, shields, and mitigation... bear in mind that phase missile bypass is for both shields <span style="text-decoration
