It's great that you have no trouble against 3 AI. Are you playing Vasari with moving starbases and its ability to jump anywhere within their own empire in 1 big jump? Try playing as TEC against 3 AI, it's probably a lot harder then. I haven't tried that, I think 1:1 is already hard enough.

Well the Vasari starbase can move and counter a small-scale attack pretty easily. Why should the TEC be so defenseless against a small fleet? It's just too easy to destroy a fully upgraded, hugely expensive starbase with those weapons. They do heavy damage AND they have long range. Why both? Why would a handful of units be able to destroy a complete defense (if you don't bring in a fleet) ?
Of course they can. Here's an example: A hard AI with 2x more income than me can build a huge fleet and split his fleet in 2. One will keep my fleet busy at my homeworld. The other harasses another world. Now fortunately that happened while he only had frigates and a few LRM frigates, but imagine what'll happen later in the game. You only need a small fleet to completely destroy a very expensive defense. Here's another example: I've decided to attack the A
1. The Ankylon group shield is pretty good imho. I only wish the "tight" formation would force ships in the fleet to stay close to the Titan under its shield and not outside... could someone fix that perhaps? The capital ships for example just align themselves in a line, sometimes with the Titan on one end of the line... I would prefer the Titan in the center of the group and the other ships close to it, in a circle around it or something. Same goes for the smaller ships, pref
Sure, if there's a fleet around then a starbase is very useful, at least the Vasari one that can move. The stationary ones are not that good, because the enemy can just keep its distance. But you miss my main point I'm trying to make ... the defense is completely useless when there's no fleet around to aid it. The enemy just has to make a bunch of torpedo cruisers and destroy it from a distance. Or an insane amount of bombers and look! The def
Well sure, fighter bays could be useful, but if you build those then you don't have tactical slots left for guns. About 6 fighter bays is all you can build to protect an important world, and then you don't have hardly any room for guns left. And there's no way to defend against a bomber spam or long-range torpedoes and of all things those torpedoes are very, very powerful. "Ever heard of the maginot line?" Yes. In principle it worked, it forced
I've played the game for a while now and I think it's pretty good, at least when I play against an AI. When I play online, it's just about spamming frigates, then corvettes, then bombers. And there's just nothing I can do about it, except to watch my smaller fleet get annihilated, and to see my capital ships get bombed to shit without any chance. Can't you make the early game more interesting than this? Take the weapon upgrades for example - you get
Well, the TEC has a good economy at the very end at least. I like that about the TEC. Twin starbases with level 2 tradeports give a lot of trade income. Now if it were just possible to scuttle a selection of ships (instead of 1 at a time) then a TEC player could perhaps build a new fleet (or part of a fleet) closer to home. And if it were just possible to set an auto-rebuild for a selection of ships at a planet, that would be helpful as well, then I don't ha
I dunno ... I could try again someday but I certainly don't like the rushing and the Vasari jumping is just horrible so ... yeah maybe I'll just stick to single-player, or maybe human vs AI games or something.
Today I played a game online (ffa with diplomacy on) and a Vasari opponent just jumped from his world to my homeworld - in 1 jump, ignoring the starlanes. So I sent my own fleet back and managed to repel the attacker. But after some time he did it again, with a big fleet of bombers. So I hoped he would just finish my empire, but then he left cause an ally of mine was getting close to his worlds... So I was watching his fleet movinf back and forth, while I was j
I see... yes I was too impatient, I should have waited longer after conquering a world! Does a battle fleet always repel all the culture if I wait long enough, even if there are culture planets nearby?
I destroyed nearly all colonies and the culture was still there. Here's my save game: http://www.2shared.com/file/vUjn_PbF/cultureproblem.html (Note that I did manage to destroy 2 worlds earlier in the game, the culture disappeared after I destroyed the colonies, but that didn't work later on!)
Did you research their culture tech that repels culture from capital ships?
Yes I researched Shock and Awe, but that works only in friendly gravity wells (or so it said).
If you cant colonize it, you have to go to the adjacent planets and destroy culture centers. there.
I destroyed almost colonies and I still couldn't colonize it. I played a game as Vasary Loyalist yesterday, against a Hard AI. I wanted to push into enemy territory, destroy his defenses and colonies and then consume their planets for their resources (to turn them into Dead Asteroids). That wasn't possible, because the enemy culture didn't go away even though I had a Titan and lots of battleships hovering over their world. Therefore I couldn't colonize and couldn't destroy their planets, even though I destroyed just about al
I just played 1v1 against a hard AI. I don't understand how 4 people can win against 6 AIs ... Anyway I managed to win, but it took a few tries (loading the savegame again ...). I brought my fleet of capital ships, a fleet of light carriers and 2 heavy constructors. I sent the carriers on a tour around the enemy solar system and I focused on my starbases. They were vulnerable to attack, but fortunately I had 2 Akkan Battlecruiser with full armistice and ... well I just a
Yes I can imagine that. Did you also face a starbase of just the Titan? The Ankylon is not that useless, actually it is really hard to defeat because of its group shield. I could also just go for his planet and bomb it and just ignore everything else until its gone. That would remove the enemy damage bonus ... at least if its starbase has no auxiliary government. Or maybe I could just move my small fleet around and destroy everything, while ignoring the starbase and enemy Titan for a whi
I played another game against the AI today and guess what, I faced that Kultorask Titan again. Now just that Titan alone can't do much against my own fleet and Titan, but when I invade the enemy world, I get to face a Titan and his moving starbase... and some other ships like a few capital ships and light carriers and whatever else ... now that's just a bit too much imo. I don't think it is just a challenge to play against such an enemy, I think it's simply impo
If you are going to use capitals than get ones that can drain antimatter and shut down ablities. For the TEC that would be the Dunov.
Yes I used that tactic against a regenerating level 10 Titan in a game last week, I think it was a Vesari one. That Titan was simply impossible to destroy once it activated its drain ability, which happened to drain antimatter from all my ships and restored its own antimatter to ab
Well , me and the AI were both Tec Loyalist (by chance) and in my own gravity wells my Titan plus Star Base plus some support could destroy a whole fleet of small ships (because I added light carriers to my fleet - to get rid of bombers and those pesky torpedo cruiserrs); in the enemy gravity well I lost my fleets. I just don't think a level 10 Ankylon Titan can be defeated anymore with just those little ships, especially inside the enemy gravity well. It has over 30 armor and severa
Ok. I guess it's done for balance reasons, otherwise the loss of a Titan would mean the game is essentially over and instead they want the game to drag on forever .... or maybe they just want the game to be decided in some other way than a simple battle between superweapons. I will try some other tactics when dealing with Titans - because just sending my own Titan + a big fleet of cruisers and carriers is obviously not going to work against
I played a long game against a hard AI today. After a long battle I managed to destroy it's Titan... and 5 minutes later it appeared again at level 10, with max hull points and armor. I managed to destroy it again after a long battle... and again... and again. I think this is so hard. The AI is slowly destroying my economy every time that Titan comes back, it gets harder and harder to destroy it... it also has several accompanying level 4 and 5 battleships eve
