I solved this problem by completely removing ALL files associated with this game.

I recently installed Forbidden Worlds and noticed something immediately wrong; in the research tree where the five new research icons are displayed all I see is a blank box with no image. I can see what the upgrades do, green house planets, underwater cities etc but no display image. Additionally when looking at the expanded map after I scroll out any new planet terrain shows a small image of the planet...almost like the icons in the research tree were moved over every
